Lately, I've been watching our savings account get chipped away every month due to DH and I spending frivolously. Over the last two months, I have really tightened my own purse strings so that we can avoid using the savings account for bills. In the meantime, DH has not really put any effort into saving. (That's a whole different story)
The last few nights I have literally been ill when I realized that we spent almost $1500 more than what we made this month
. When I explained to DH that we are going to be in a very bad position to buy Christmas presents, he asked where all the money is being spent. I quickly showed him our credit card bills, mortgage and car payments.
Of course, when I did that, it still seemed like we should have had enough to cover them and not be $1500 short
.
This morning, I checked our checking account online. It is showing that we have almost $1500 more than what my balance shows. Hmmmm.....how can this be? So, I go back through the register and, guess what? I completely forgot to enter in one of DH's paychecks! I had logged all of the withdrawals that come out of that check, but never logged the deposit of the money
.
So, now I can rest a little easier knowing that we will have some money for Christmas presents
. On top of that, DH has "seen the light" and we are now both really paying attention to our shopping habits and we have modified our behavior to get us back on the track to saving
