I've checked this in the past, but just on a whim went out and searched for myself and my DH last night. Sometime in late 2011, money was sent in for DH from 2005! It's a very tidy chunk of change. Since I'm the one who found it, we'll tuck it into our Disney fund!

You can either check missingmoney.com or your state treasurer's office website.

Google your state's name and "unclaimed property;" just as mrsklamc said, it will take you to whatever department in your state is handling this.

There's no possible way we could've even known about this money - it was an end of year refund on taxes we paid in mid-year on a house we sold - I guess the mortgage company figured our taxes wrong - and the mortgage company didn't run us down to deliver our check. (Go figure.)

I did some relations I've found quite a bit of money for in the past and found that, yet again, they have an entire page to themselves! I love them both, but. . .wow.

Just found my deceased Mom's name. Called dad and he is trying to work through the forms, but it isn't clear on what they want, all her info, hers and some of his, or his with her SSN. He is going to try and email the state to ask. You would think this would be common and they would make it easy, but it is the government, and if it is hard enough you might give up. It does not show how the money got there, or how much it is, so I hope it is worth it.

I check every so often. This time my brother showed up on the list as having money so I sent him a message. My deceased grandfather has been on the list for years. I'm not even sure who in the family would go about finding out about his. His wife and children are all deceased, just us grand kids are left.

Thank you !!:worship:

I just checked and my name appeared! I filled out the claim form...can't wait to see what its for...plus I checked and my daughter in law showed up too!!

More money for DISNEY that we were not even expecting!!

I had no idea this existed! It's amazing what you find at midnight when you're browsing the DisBoards! I found myself and it's from a hospital I visited once while living in New Mexico.... Filled out the form to claim it, we'll see where it goes from here! Thanks for the post!

:goodvibes MIL and BIL are both there. We we call and let them know. One address is from 25 years ago!

I checked and I am on there from a job I worked in highschool - -12 years ago at least! I clicked claim it but it says there was an error and someone will email me.
Since highschool I have moved 6 times and got married.... I wonder what kind of info they will want to claim.... I also wonder how much I get to claim?

Ok, so searching for myself, I found nothing (but then, I'm obsessive about change-of-address forms...)

BUT

There is $100 or so that is almost definitely for my husband--from years ago in California, and a second amount with his name matching that MAY be him, but there's not enough information to be sure.

Cool.

And Upromise owes the ex-wife $5.07... :)

Thanks, that was fun.. :)

Huh, one from Verizon - a deposit / refund of some sort.... have to look into that one! Thanks!

I found something for DH. It says its between $1 and $50. Its associated with an old address from years ago. I can easily copy the ID and SS card but they want something showing us at the old address as well and I seriously doubt I have anything but I'll have to look through some old papers.

I found my mom's name on there. It says under $100 but you never know, hoping it's $99 LOL. She passed away so I hope I can claim it.

I came across this website several years ago and found my sister on it but never found anyone else's name...but thanks for posting it because I just checked it again and my husband is on there! His claim is for "less than $100". I'll try and report back when we find out how much money he was owed...he says it's probably 10 cents. LOL
