I just checked my car rental rate from National for Dec 3-18 and saved quite a bit of money this morning. The odd thing is, I couldn't just modify my original reservation. Using the same information in a new reservation as in modifying the old one, I got two DIFFERENT totals. The new reservation total cost was lower so I confirmed it and then canceled the original.

My total cost for a midsize for 15 days is $265.36 using 5007160 contract number and coupon from Entertainmnet book ND1283FJA for $40 off a 10 day or more rental. My reservation had been $350 before today.

Thanks, Ink. I was able to shave a few more dollars off next months trip car rental. Shorter period than your but still a few more. I think this is about the 5th time it has reduced since I made it originally back in early summer. Thanks again.

Nothing for me yet. My trip is January 16th-29. Looks like just you December folks right now are getting a lower rate. I'm still getting a good rate as my base weekly rate is $134 before taxes and discounts. I think my current rate is $288 for a 2 week rental (executive aisle/full size guaranteed). Normally some of my lowest National rates have always come in January. Last year I think my weekly base rate was $90.

Thanks for the tip. Just reduced our January rental by $40.00

I've noticed that with National and a few other car places I book for clients over the past year or two. When it gets very close, a few weeks out, sometimes a month, their rates go down and I re-book the cars.

I checked my reservation for 12-8 for a SUV for a week. No change in price. Used an Entertainment coupon. Picking up at the car care center.

I have another reservation at TPA in Jan. We have reserved a SUV. How does that work with the EA? Will there be a SUV there waiting for us? Or do we just go to the EA and pick out the best fit for our needs? I am confused about this.

Thanks for posting this!! I had gone with another rental car company but really wanted National but couldn't justify the extra $50 but I looked today and used a coupon and got National for $4 more than the other rental car company and I feel more secure with them as it will be my first time renting and driving a rental car...not sure how my dad feels about that haha!!

$155 total for Dec 9-14th!!..plus gas and tolls of course!

I don't have an Entertainment Book (and don't know if I could get one by the 29th), but even just checking the Continental code brought it down to *below* what we already have now (with Alaska code and some other coupon).

Piggybacking here...hubby has a card for Emerald Club. I look at the reservations, and it says "Level of Service: Counter". In the email confirmation the reservation we already have, it says "In order to use the counter bypass service for Emerald Club, you must complete your profile information with Personal Info, Credit Card & Coverage options."

Now, does that mean that once we go to the counter (which I think we'd have to do anyway, b/c we have to add me to the reservation, right?) we can then go to the Emerald Aisle? Or will we just be sent to the mid-size aisle?

What's annoying is that we DID completely the profile with all those things...even before making that reservation. However, I know that we have NOT mailed or faxed a signed form with those things on it, and that might be the hold up.

Anyone have advice or info? Thanks!

Editing.....I just went in and modified my reservation (after making a Continental account for the contract ID), and now it shows up as Level of Service: Emerald Aisle! Excellent!

I still think we have to stop in to get me put as an additional driver but I'm not worried about being sent to the mid-size aisle.

Here's the beauty of EC with National ... spouse is automatically approved as an extra driver. You don't even have to present your credit card. So, you can go straight to the Emerald Aisle and then drive to the gate. We've always checked there to make sure that it's OK for both of us to drive. They ask if we are spouses and tell us to ahead.

Where did it say the update as Emerald Aisle?? I did the same thing and updated mine with all of the info and mine still says counter. It's my first time using National so that might be why even though I signed up for EA??

Do you have a log in at National Car? If so, were you logged in? Did you make sure you put your Emerald Club number in the required field? These processes are what idendify you as an EC member and send you to directly to the cars.

Really? I'd asked about additional driver/spouse before, and people said I'd need to go to the counter. Hmm. Maybe we'll try it. :)

It was towards the top, not in the "banner" area, but before the real info on the rate etc.

DH has rented from them before, which is when he was given the card (he was just given it, no enrolling, or fee, which is weird!), so maybe that's why it changed? Did you fill out your entire profile? Driver's license, all the little bubbles they want you to click etc etc etc?

Glad to see others are getting cheaper rates, too! Every $ saved helps a bit.

I forgot to say it, but thank you for posting. :goodvibes Between this last night and our flights out to Orlando having a price decrease (SW) today, I'm having some fun!
