Check out my New Mickey Mouse Fish

Okay so I checked the fish out. One has a little bump type thing between the fins on the belly. Which I think might be the waste department seeing how the other fish has waste hanging from that same area. :confused3

Cool fish...do they have a name other than Mickey fish? I mean since I don't have a Petsmart around here and I'll have to go the nearest pet store and ask probably...

Here is what I found on Petsolution.com
Neon Mickey Mouse Moon Platy, Xiphophorus sp., is a very peaceful yet active fish. The Platy, a livebearing species, possesses traits that are very well suited for the aquarists of all experience levels because of its hardiness and peacefulness. The Platy can be found in many sheer, bright colors and will retain its small body size. Female Platys can grow to 3 inches in length with males a bit smaller. When male and female are coupled, the Platy can and will produce broods of young on an average of once a month. This time can be shorter or longer, depending mainly upon temperature. These fish are best kept in trios. This will keep the male from exhausting the female. Water conditions should be slightly alkaline and medium hard. The aquarium should be well lighted also. These hardy fish are happy with most any aquarium foods and are likely to pick algae from plants and aquarium ornaments.

Approximate arrival size for Platys: 1 to 2 inches

I have three of these fish, we just got an aquarium this year, and I bought two at first (Mickey and Minnie of course) and only Mickey survived, but now I have two more. We bought our fish at Petsmart, and these were shown to us as easy to care for, etc. My kids get a real kick out of them!

We had a few onlt one left. no babies, they must been the same sex :goodvibes

Welcome to Aquarium Sex Ed 101, I will be your instructor;):

Ok, class...listen up. The above appears to be a female platy, notice behind the lower, small belly fins (don't want to get too technical with y'all), there is nothing and then there is the tail. You can't see anything there because she has an 'insie'.

Below is a male platy (not mickey mouse...but same body type). Note the small fin looking thing (light colored)between the belly fin and the tail: When in 'use' (ahem, no laughing class), it flips forward and looks like a little spear: (if you look at my siggie, it is directly above ",publ")

That is just what I needed this morning.
I think I might need to go back and find a Male. According the above I think I have two females.

It turned out to be a poop on its way out! And they have the longest poops I've ever seen. I find myself yelling at them "Clench already!".

:rotfl: Oh, the little wonders of life that can make a person's day!! :rotfl:

Thanks for the fishy lessons...I'm sure there will be a quiz at some point. Just in case, would the approriate answer for the male anatomy be "little spear"? :rotfl2:

Actually, this might be an option for the next time DS asks for a pet. He had a Beta that lived for 18 months...but suffered from depression according to my nephew who worked in a pet store at the time. :confused3 Poor Diablo was lathargic, didn't care about his appearance and contracted "fish gunk" and didn't want to eat, so my nephew told me to buy him a friend, put a mirror near the tank, or buy him some toys. Well, DS did it up right...bought him one of the 1 gallon tanks, airated, with rocks and plants and a funny little gargoyle. He pepped up and lived for another 6 months...died on Good Friday...don't even go there cause we already did...no miracles here.

We had two of them, named Mickey and Minnie  :teeth: . Well, Micky knocked Minnie up, then Minnie died of pregnancy related complications. :guilty: Not much later, Mickey died of a broken heart. :guilty: True story.

OHMYGOSH! Thanks for the visual. :earboy2: I think I'm going to go buy a pair of these tomorrow. We have the tank already. Does the water need to be aerated or heated? With our beta's we just had them in individual goldfish bowls with no heat or light.
