Okay, I'm playing around thinking about Dec trip... I know I still have a long time to decide whether or not we want DDP , but just making an outline of what we will probably do- it just doesnt seem to add up- as in we would save about 250.00.00 without ddp.. I based this on what we may actually do and in some cases I have rounded the numbers a bit.

This what I have:

Sunday 12/14- Arrival day for MIL and 1st night at AKL DVC. (We will have already been there for 3 days for Chess tournament but will not get dining plan then as we will stay at GF Con.)

go to MGM for holiday stuff around 4pm ( if chess over- should be)

Sci-fi dinner

basing this on all getting hamburgers.

12.00 X 5 60.00

4.50 X2 9.00 kids milkshakes

9.00 grownup sodas

5.00 X5 deserts for all

103.00

7.00 tax

22.00 tip

MONDAY- AK day in morning

late breakfast at Tusker house 23.99 X5 - think may have holiday pricing then

120.00

7.80 tax

24.00 tip

maybe some MK later or Epcot- AK can be a whole day for us and more

late dinner at Whispering canyon or BOMA

skillet 22.49 pp ( but I serioulsy think do not think the kids will get this). They are more than likely going to get something from kids menu
skillet 22.49ppX5= 112.45
dessert 6.00 pp X5=30
drinks 3.00 pp x5 =15
157.45
30.00 tip
10.25 tax

Total 197.70

Tuesday
EPCOT AM
Coral Reeef lunch
estimating 20.00 per entree 100.00
8.00 dessert 40.00
3.00 drink 15.00
165.00 total
11.00 tax
35.00 tax
211.00 grand total

MVCCP use counter service and snacks 10.00 counter service pp 50.00
4.00 snacks pp 20.00

WED- Universal Studios (?) or just City walk
Margaritaville late lunch- early dinner
see ICE show at Gaylord

THURSDAY- MK
use counter service and snacks 70.00
dinner T-rex

So, adding all these up ( minus tip ), I come up with 724 + 94.12 ( tax)..

Is tax included with DDP?= 818

DDP for all 5 equals 949.00 + approx 125 for tipand we would more than likely waste 2-3 counter services and 1 TS credit.

The only way I would do/may do the dining plan is if it is free dining and even then it is VERY close. The way we would eat would come out about right with the free dining. We would just get more food by getting the dining plan, but if it were not "free" it would not even come close. The dining plan isn't a good deal.

Your math is close, but it's high.

Tax isn't 13%, it's 6.5% for food, so on $724, it'd be $47.06

Also, even rounding - you rounded quite high. I put the menu prices from allearsnet in my Dining Plan Spreadsheet and got the following (All prices include Tax:

Sci-Fi
$106.39

Tusker House (w/ $4 increase for holiday pricing)
$122.42

Whispering Canyon Cafe
$163.32

Coral Reef
$160.71

CS #1
$48.40

CS #2
$48.40

Snacks
$42.60

Grand Total Including Tax - $692.25

(Total Spent on Entree's $457.35, Desserts $94.90. Beverages $57.75)

To me it looks like your family would save $257.50 paying OOP vs doing the DDP.

Ctsplaysinrain..............

I'm sorry, I can't tell how many nights you are staying or how many adults/children as far as what Disney deems an adult.

You say 5 people......2 A and 3 Ch.?? For 5 nights?? Just trying to see why the dining plan is so expensive for you.

To get the number that she quoted, it looks like she's figuring 5 adults for 5 nights. (I would guess that her children are little adults 10-14 ish)
