Check-in time?

Curious. Family will be checking into CR in three weeks I understand that check-in is at 3:00 but what time have people checked in and recieved their rooms? I know we could leave luggage and go to the parks or go swimming but trying to time arrival just right.

Also on a side note how are the rooms given out? First come first served by requests. Or are they pre-assigned regardless of what time one arrives.

We have never had to wait to get into our room. Only at DVC resorts do you have to wait until 4:00 in most cases. At the 'regular' resorts we have gotten our rooms as early as 10:30 right up to the normal check-in time.

As to how the rooms are assigned...good question. I'm not so sure anyone really knows. You will get differing opinions from CMs.

People check in all day. There's really no way to know how to time it just right that your room is ready. We checked in early last year but our room wasn't ready until around 3:00. It just depends where they have you assigned to and if the room has been cleaned. If you are willing to take any room when you get there, you might have a better chance of getting something. But, if you have room requests that matter to you, you might have to wait longer. So, in a long-winded way, I'm trying to say there's no perfect time that is going to be the time when your room will definitely be ready unless you check in after 3:00. Good luck.

We just got back last Friday. Stayed at CR from May 22-26. We were told 3 pm check in but since we drove and made really good time, we got there at 12:30. I decided to check us in and have a luggage stored and hit the park, but to our surprise our room was ready! We got a GREAT room. We were in 5209 south (which I thought was closed for refurbish) wing. It was a large coner room that overlooked the pool on one side and the bay on the other. Got to see the electic light parade every night (except for Wishes night). I will be glad to answer any other questions if I can.

On our last trip, we checked in at ASmovies at 11pm and had a great room in the Fantasia building. We then moved over to AKL at 10:30am and had a great Savannah room!
