we are staying at BWV for the first time in 31 days (wooo hooo!!). We have a studio for all the nights. The first 2 nights are a boardwalk view, the other 5 nights are a standard view. We have been on the waitlist for the first 2 nights to be a standard view, but no luck so far. My question is: when we check in, can we ask if they have a standard view available for the first 2 nights? Can they switch it and if so, will we get our points back? Has anyone ever had any luck in doing this? Is it even possible for them to do?

Because you will be in the 30 day window, your points would go into holding if it can be done. I'm not sure that it can though. I would call MS today and find out if they have any available. Also, if you borrowed the points that could hurt you too as they have to be used in the current use year.

Sure if there is something available, but believe me when I say you do NOT want to do that. Holding points are extremely difficult to use, and not worth the effort, in my way of thinking.

I don't think you would get your points back at checkin if you changed from preferred to standard view. I do know that if you cancelled your room on checkin day, they don't return your points. However, I also know that sometimes they can fix that--I was part of a blackout a few years ago, and my plane was delayed. They put my points back into my account as regular points(they were from holding!). I ended up banking them into my next year!

Be sure to call MS to tell them you want to keep your waitlist going between 30 days through 8 days out; then at 7 days & under you can call MS daily to check availability. Hopefully standard will come available before your trip.

That seems like a small price to pay for a premium view - it should be fun and I hope you enjoy it!

How funny I would have kept the waitlist and forfeited the 6 points if they came through for the convenience of staying in the same room. When I saw your Original Post I thought the object was that you didn't want a split stay or to have to move in the middle of your vacation, and then everybody focused on points. Ha! Guess I can see why a view would be nice even for a few nights though.
