Seeing how the only other time I've been to the Fort we stayed in a cabin and transferred from another resort, I was wondering about the check in process.

I see from photos that there are drive-up windows for campers. Do they check you in and give you a site assignment there or is that just to get you temporary access to the overflow lot? Then go into the Reception Outpost to get your site assignment?

Also, I hear that the guardshack roof is notorious for eating RVs. Is there enough advance line of sight to plan the swing? I figure as long as I know about the possibility of tearing into the roof, I should be able to see it coming and swing to the side more, but you never know until you're there right?

You will want to drive slow and stay in the right lane once you get to the guard shack. Do allow yourself some room as you pull towards the guard shack and he/she will check you in.

He will point you straight forward and this is where you do want to watch your swing. It is a very minor dog leg left but if you are too close you can end up hitting a few things. I think the last time we were there Feb. the roof was shortened a bit as to avoid anymore accidents.

Pull Straight forward to the gates. Depending on when you get there, you can check in there and just sit in the truck or you will have to go inside and check in.

If your spot is open you will be directed to your loop. If not then yes to the overflow parking lot you will need to go.

Hopefully this helps.

Many thanks, sounds fairly quick and painless. Thanks for the tip on staying to the right.

The first year we went the guard directed us to park and go in because there was a little bit of a line and he said it would be faster. Last year we had our golf cart so my husband dropped me off and I went in and checked in while he was unloading the trailer at the overflow lot. It usually doesn't take too long. I am usually so excited to be there I don't mind waiting a few minutes to check in.

Is the drive-thru faster?

The last time we were there, they had domes installed on the road to keep you away from the guardshack in hopes of not hitting the roof. I don't remember seeing them before and I don't know if they are still there but if yo try to not run over them you should be fine. We had a 38ft 5er at the time and it kept us away from the shack( I was also watching closely because I new about it).seems like every time we go, it's just been hit. We haven't been since october so I don't know how it may have been improved.
