Check-in on airtran.com seating choices

When you check-in at the 24 hour mark online airtran.com (and you didn't purchase advance seats) you then pick your seats....are the priority (exit row) seats available for free as well, or just the standard seats?

No and yes. Any seat you select 24 hours or fewer before departure has no extra cost associated with it; the chance of an exit row seat being available at that point is minuscule. If that's where you want to sit, the best advice you'll get is to pay for the seat in advance - but only if everyone in your party (no matter where they sit) meets AirTran's minimum age for exit row seating.

I actually just checked in for my flight tomorrow morning with AirTran. There was one priority seat left and I got it for free!

Exit Row Seating. Exit row coach seating (with additional leg room) is also available for purchase. All customers choosing exit row seating (whether purchased in advance or assigned at check-in) must meet certain requirements to qualify for exit row seating. You must be:
•15 years of age or older
•Willing and able to help in the event of an emergency
•Not traveling with an infant, children or pets
•Able to speak and understand English
•Able to lift 50 pounds
•Not using a seat belt extender (which could get tangled in an emergency)

Thanks for the info! I noticed that there is quite a bit of "priority" seating available on one of our flights...is that ALL exit row?? There are like 5 or 6 rows of "priority" seating...and does anyone know that if I try to select a seat for a child, and they are not allowed to sit there...will it tell me that? Thanks again!

There is only one or two rows that are exit rows, depending on the kind of plane.

No, there is no way for Airtran to know if your child meets the age requirement. The site will not tell you that your child is not allowed to sit in the exit row. You are supposed to know that on your own.

If you happen to click on a exit row seat , message will show that it is an exit row and it will give teh age limit and other info.

Not all priority seats are exit rows. I am travelling with my dgd(8) nd i booked priority seats but they are not at an exit. They are just a couple of rows from one though.

As others have said priority seats are not necessarily exit rows. On Air Tran the first few rows of coach are either $15.00 and $13.00 seats. Paying for those $15.00 and $13.00 seats guarantee you boarding zone 1. You can get them for free at the 24 hour mark, but if not paying for them, they are boarding zone 7. Those seats are not exit rows, but are considered priority seats if you prepay for them. There are no limitations on who can sit in them.

About half back they have $20.00 seats. Those are the exit rows and there are usually two rows of them. To sit in them you must be 15 years of age or older and must speak English. I have seen people with kids moved out of those seats and once saw a couple moved. The woman did not speak English. The husband got really agitated and said he'd speak for her. The FA insisted that she move, the husband said she could not sit next to another man due to religious reasons, and the FA moved them both.

It doesn't matter if you have a connecting flight. It is still either $13.00 or $15.00 going or coming. For example last year I had a flight from DFW to MCO with a layover in Atlanta. I don't do middle seats or seats in the back of the plane, so to get my preferred aisle seat close to the front I always pay for those $15.00 or $13.00 seats. I paid $15.00 going and $15.00 coming home. That $15.00 covered my seats from DFW to Atlanta and also my seat from Atlanta to MCO. Coming home, I paid a flat $15.00 and it covered both my seat from MCO to Atlanta and the seat from Atlanta to DFW. You don't pay the $15.00 twice, just because you switch planes. When you click on to book your flight, if you click that you want to choose your seat and click on a $15.00 seat, your second flight will automatically pop up after you choose your seat for the first segment and allow you to choose another $15.00 seat for that flight. You just pay the $15.00 once, then the same thing happens if you choose to pay for your seat for your return flights home and it will be another $15.00 fee (which again will include however many flight changes to takes to get you home).

As far as if it costs $15.00 or $13.00 it, depends on which row you want. I just checked a Nov flight from DFW to MCO. Rows 12 and 14 are $15.00 and Rows 15 and 16 are $13.00. Both guarantee you Boarding zone 1 (if you pay for them). If you wait until the 24 hour mark to get them for free, you get Boarding zone 7. Row 18 is the exit row, cost $20.00, and has more leg room. All are considered Priority Boarding as long as you pay for them and don't wait until the 24 hour mark to get them for free.
