Check In / Check Out when doing a part point, part cash reservation

If you book a stay partially on points & partially with cash (for the point wasting weekend nights), and assuming that you are booking the whole thing through Member Services, do you have to actually check out & then check back in - getting new KTTW cards and everything?

Thanks in advance!

I just booked one night in October with MS on cash and the next 6 nights are booked with points. MS told me they linked the reservations so we will not have to move or check out/check back in. I hope MS told me correctly.

I think if you book your cash nights through CRO and your point nights through MS then you have to check out/check back in.

If you get the reservation through CRO, you definitely will have to check out and check back in. You may have to move.

If you have a different type room on cash (preferred vs standard vs BW view) you will have to move and check out/check in again.

We have done this several times, as recently as February this year. If you book everything thru MS and stay in the same sized unit (w/same view category) the whole time, you should have only one check-in and one set of room keys. We have done mixed cash/ points stays at BWV and VB in the past, and it has been seamless each time. If you go thru CRO, it becomes problematic; but if it is all booked thru MS, things should be seamless.

Good luck!

Thanks, everyone for your responses! We are not members (yet), but we are renting from some friends this fall to check it out. We typically stay for 7 - 8 nights when we go to WDW, because if I'm going to take 5 days off of work, I want to maximize our time, not waste the weekends before and after. So, I'm just wondering how that process works, should we decide to become members. Thanks!

We had a points/cash reservation at OKW that also included a 2 BR (while we had friends with us) and a 1 BR (when they left). The only time we had to check in and out again was when we decreased from a 2 BR to a 1 BR --- that was a separate reservation. The cash reservation through MS was linked to our points reservation and was seamless.

When we checked in, the CM offered me a choice of at least four 2 BRs that we would be able to drop the studio and stay in the 1 BR. It was a piece of cake!

I always book my vacations as points/cash, and I have never had to move, ever. I have done my weekends both thru MS and thru CRO, and the only difference was that with CRO we had to 0 out our account(they put it on our charge card), so we started over again with charge privileges. It took about 10 minutes, tops. The secret is to remind them when you check in that you are doing a points/cash stay, so they know ahead of time.

I've paid for a weekend night 3 times, twice through member services and once through CRO AP rate, all 3 times for an OKW 1 bedroom. The 2 times through member services, I got keys for the entire combined stay at check-in. Everyhing was treated as 1 DVC stay. Both times it was Saturday or Friday and Saturday, housekeeping dates were based on the entire stay. I paid 35 cents for phone calls the entire stay. The 1 time I did the AP rate, the cash night was last. I did have to go to the front desk and get new keys and parking permit for the Friday night, stayed in the same room. I did get a full cleaning that day. Since it was not on points, I had to pay 75 cents for phone calls.

We had part cash/points ressie at VWL last October. Reminded them at check-in and we stayed in same room and had same room keys the whole time. Did not have to come back down to re check-in when switching from cash to points. We had some days that housekeeping did full cleaning and others trash and towel and days were never when we expected them. Also the parking permit was only for the cash days. I hadn't noticed and neither did the CM, so imagine my surprise when an observant CM at Epcot told me it was expired!!! Thank goodness I thought fast and whipped out my room key that was not expired.
