Hi my husband and I have a question re upgrading tickets to annual passes with DVC. We are going in Oct for 11 nites. My sister has 2 10 day myw park hopper with water park and more passes (she had to cancel her trip last Sept. .) She will sell them to us for $20 less than what she paid last year. We were going to buy tickets thru Undercover Tourist without the water park feature even though we do intend on spending 1 day at Typhoon Lagoon. We go to wdw easily once a year and even if we can swing the cruise next year---keep hoping:thumbsup2--- would spend 2 days at the parks. So we think upgrading to annual passes would be a good idea. So how does upgrading to the annual pass work? Can we still get DVC discount? We never considered getting the premium annual pass as we do not always make the water parks. Therefore, can anyone tell me our best bet for getting the best value for our money and minimizing the extra money to upgrade ? Also just to double check that the water park feature does not count as one of the 10 days? Thank you!!!

The tickets should each be used once. Disney will give you credit on the value of ticket at the time it was purchased and the DVC discount still applies. WP days are separate and don't count towards the 10 days.

Why do they need to be used once? I'm pretty sure I've upgraded to AP's on new, unused tickets.

If the tickets are used once, Disney will credit you the value of the tickets at the time they were purchased.

If the tickets are unused, they will credit you the value as if you purchased them on the the same day as your upgrade to the AP.

Is that backwards? should it be: Used once the tickets would be counted as new full price tickets, never used would be the orginal purchase price?

As stated, the OP would get a better value by never using her 2 year old (cheaper back then) tickets, and I do not think that was the case.

I've heard that it's best to use the water parks because you get no credit for that expense at all.

I believe disneynutz is correct. Its counter-intuitive and doesn't make a lot of sense but I'm fairly certain that is the current policy.

Thank you. I' m thinking we might have to go to the water park our first day and then upgrade the next day. Or can I upgrade that first night if we go to park in the evening after the water park :confused3: ? Thanx for the help guys!

I believe if you use a water park on the MYW, you can only upgrade to a premium AP.

I still don't totally get the whole process of upgrading tickets....If I buy a ten day pass and use it for one day before I upgrade to the AP with a DVC discount..how much will they credit me....for a 9 day pass since that is what I have left or the amount I paid for the 10 day pass? Does anyone else find this incredibly confusing?

They will credit you for the full price but will backdate the AP effective date to the date you first used the MYW.

Can anyone else confirm if this is true? Thank you Debbie B for this info. We definately do not want the premium pass as we are only looking to go to the water park once possibly an additional time on next trip. We also do not need the other features. We certainly could do without that additional expense.

I'm confused now. I thought that if you have a ticket, that you should use one day on it so that you would get the current value of the ticket - not the amount you paid for it. :confused3 I bought a ten-day pass last summer (didn't use it) and plan on upgrading it to an AP this summer. Can someone please confirm if it's the best deal to use it first, or not? TIA :goodvibes

If the tickets are unused, they will credit you the value as if you purchased them on the the same day as your upgrade to the AP.

Then wouldn't it make more sense to not use the ticket, but to upgrade the unused ticket? That way you get the current ticket price as opposed to what you may have bought it for at an earlier date or the discounted amount you paid a ticket broker.

What if my tickets are full price 7 day MYW tickets? Does it matter if I use them first or not?

When you upgrade, tickets are brought to gate price (if they were purchased at a discounted rate like AAA) then upgraded at the current gate price. I doesn't matter if they have been used or not, but if used, the annual will expire on the date the ticket was first used.

If you used a water park, you can only upgrade to the premium annual.
