so I've been looking at various websites that sell medical ID bracelets. The prices are reasonable until you add the engraving. Wow! It can really jack the price up but taking jewelry to our mall to engrave isn't any cheaper. Does anyone know a cheap way to get engraving on a medical ID?

there is a company out of Ky. called road Id. the items are meant for runners/bikers etc. but they basically can do 4-5 lines of whatever you want and are around 15.00. website is roadid.com

Medical information such as what medicine someone is taking can change, or additional diagnoses can be added. That's why a medical ID bracelet which alerts first responders to contact a service for more exact information can be important.

Personally, I think medical IDs are worth spending the money. First responders and health professionals rely on the information.
However, on a budget there is the Road ID that was mentioned, which will run about $20 for the bracelet and I think the medical ID charm is another $5 or so. Engraving is included.
Or check ID options at PetCo. I bought us all ID tags there last year, and I'm fairly certain they had the medical ID logo as an option.
Last, I found a site called medids.com that had reasonable prices.

I have a really neat ID band that doesn't require engraving and can be updated easily, I bought it at walmart but many places have them , it comes in 2 sizes, looks like a watch band that stretches, has a simple medic alert insignia on the front of it. There is a solid part under the insignia that opens, allowing you to put a piece of paper in it folded up (fan fold) , I type all my info, allergies, meds etc in size 8 font then print it and fold it up to put it inside the compartment, thus the reason it can be changed so easily.

Wow really? Walmart? Where in the jewelry section?

No, in the medical supply area like where diabetes supplies are, pill boxes, pill cutters etc. I have seen them at drugstores too and in catalogs but off hand I can't think which ones. Sorry it took so long to answer, I have been away from the computer :)

Update: its actually on the walmart website - its called "easy comforts medical ID bracelet" and comes in mens and womans sizes, I want to say the mens is a little wider and of course larger in circumference , it comes with stickers to put inside to alert EMS/medical staff of conditions, but I don't use those, I just type up the info and put it inside, i think I have name, address, allergies, ICE contact info plus 20 meds typed on it and fan folded and it fits. I just measured the womans that I have and its about 1/4 inch wide, the mens is probably double that. It resembles a stetchy watch (think Timex old styles) and is actually pretty discreet looking compared to others I have seen but easy for medical personnel to recognize it. Of all the ones I have had, I like this one the best for me.
