Cheapest way to get 1 college course

If reviewing your undergrad transcript doesn't turn up the missing credit -

I have to concur with taking a CLEP or DSST. First make sure your program will accept it. There are study guides available for about $30 if you think you need it. Even with the study guide it's going to be your most time and cost effective way for you to get this missing credit.

You really don't need to pay for those study guides. There are more than enough free resources online.

Thanks for the info everyone. I don't get straigherline.com either. I checked the site but I agree it looks like a broker. I called U of Phoenix...they start at $1400 per course. I called one CC and they are charging $426 for a lit class. Checked into CLEP and the sample questions are very hard. Can't imagine passing that. But that would be a great option if I could remember that far back.;)

Don't bother with U of Phoenix, they are a degree mill that is unlikely to accredited by anyone that your university would accept. They are in the business of making money nothing more. I think about $400 is going to be the going rate for a real university correspondence class. CLEP test is the best show but only if you think you can pass it. Although you can find study guide for most CLEP tests... you might go look at one in a book store and decide if you are dedicated enough to study for it on your own.

This 100% :thumbsup2 Most universities worth their salt aren't going to accept credits from any of the online degree mills. Personally, I've never cared for them (disclaimer: I am a bit biased; I work at a public university); I always felt their business practices were shady. I encourage anyone considering a for profit to watch College Inc.; it may make you change your mind about where you spend your money. (sorry, I got on my soap box there a bit)

OP, since you're worried about spending the money at the holidays, can you wait until the spring semester to take it? Spring tuition money (at least here) won't be due until January if you start at the beginning of the spring term. A lot of community colleges (again, here at least) have rolling semesters that don't necessarily start with the normal semester. Call around and ask questions. If you can find a course that doesn't start until February that would give you more time also to get the money together.

Do you need a British Literature course or just any literature course? Straighterline doesn't seem to offer either. They only offer English Composition.

As an advisor I regularly suggest to my students who only need one or two classes to consider taking them at a junior college (specially when they go home for the summer). It's cheaper than the 4 year. I would also avoid going through Univ. of Pheonix or other schools liek them as the classes may not be accepted.
