Cheapest Scooter Rental

I'm looking into reserving a scooter for my trip. One of the power chair type looking ones. On the last trip. My family used Apple Scooter rentals on our last trip in 2014, and had a great experience with them. But, is there any scooter rental companies that will rent cheaply for seven days? I'm also looking at Buena Vista Scooters.

Also do any of the scooter rental places drop off at hotels outside of Disney? My partner Dan Haugen, and I will be staying with our caregiver at Marriott Grande Vista Hotel October 27th-November 3rd. Would I have to meet up with them as I will be the one using the scooter? Or, do they leave it at Bell services?

I'm doing my search for a rental scooter now as I'm trying to reserve one as soon as possible, for my trip. I've rented a scooter before on my Disney trip in 2011. It was an OK experience. I know they'll just need to know what my weight is, and how tall I am.

I love how the scooters look more like a power chair though.

Be sure to check Walker Mobility. They have weekly rates that I've found to be very reasonable. Great service and scooters as well.

Whew! I'm so glad to hear that about their rates. I must admit that I booked them without comparing rates at all. I booked them because they have great reviews, and because the girl seemed so cordial and efficient on the phone. Also, because of the irony of their name. Years ago, in my pre-ECV days, I saw an ECV with "Walker mobility", DH and I laughed and both said "If I ever need an ECV, that's who I'm going with." Bad reason to rent from them, maybe, but it gives me a little smile when needing an ECV doesn't make me feel too smiley.

I may be wrong but I think power chairs, not scooters, are harder to rent because there are less of them available. The skill set is different for them. Anyway, they cost more than most of the portable scooters.

Because the power chairs cost more and are a little harder to use I'm not sure the vendors will drop off at bell services of an offsite resort. The best way is to probably ask each vendor you call.

Also, I believe most of the vendors will be on par with one another on pricing for similar models. The one difference may be some of the vendors include insurance.

Please keep in mind power chairs need special transportation to and from the parks. Not sure how you are getting back and forth.

OP -- I think you are going to have to check with the vendors. Start with the list in Post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. Some vendors only rent the more "traditional" style ECVs, while others will also rent a power chair. In fact, SueM has included what products each rents in that list, though of course you would want to double-check. I believe relatively few posters here have rented power chairs, so you may not get a lot of feedback specifically about price comparisons.

Enjoy your vacation!

There does seem to be a new category of what I would consider a "hybrid" device - however I have never seen one in person, nor do I know anyone who has actually used one, so I cannot comment on any aspect of it.

EZ Lite

Sue, or one of our other regulars who deals with power chairs on a regular basis may be able to look at this and see if it looks like something that is safe and would hold up under the demands of WDW (or similar) touring. However, as far as I know, no one is renting anything similar in the Orlando area.

Thanks LaneJudy. I've been trying to research all the different vendors, and their prices. Hoping I can make a decision soon as it's September now, and the trip is a month away. We'll be using LYNX paratransit to get from place to place as I am ADA certified. Which will be wonderful because we won't have to worry about renting a car. I rented a Jazzy power chair on the last trip in 2011 from ScootAround. It was OK. Although the motors were terrible. Someone must've used it too hard too because the seat was pretty badly torn up.

I just realized the wheelchair vendor I go through here at home has a location in Florida. Near Orlando I think. But, I doubt they rent out power chairs just for using in the park.

I have seen people with that particular wheelchair in the parks.
They were definitely people's personal wheelchair, not rented. I doubt that any company would rent them because they are not very heavy duty looking and I don't think would be durable enough for rental.
They are more for the person who needs one occasionally and doesn't have a wheelchair accessible van to transport it in. The seat looked OK, but not particularly supportive and the armrests and footrests might not be comfortable for everyone. It's kind of a basic chair for someone with mobility or stamina needs; not someone like my daughter who has need for adaptations.
It doesn't have transport tie down loops, so would not be suitable for bus transport.

All but one of the companies that rent power wheelchairs rent Jazzy power chairs - the basic kind with seats that are similar to car bucket seats. They probably rent those because they are relatively inexpensive compared to other brands of power wheelchair.
They are more expensive than ECVs, which is reflected in the price. Last time I compared, it cost between 1.5 and 2 times as much per day to rent a power wheelchair than an ECV.

CARE Medical is a full service Medical company and does rent power wheelchairs other than the basic Jazzy ones. We looked into renting from them once, but our daughter's size (5 feet tall and about 80 pounds) meant they didn't have equipment small enough to fit her.
Walker is also a medical company. They used to rent equipment other than what is on the page listed in the FAQs thread (they had a separate website for the general medical, but I have not been able to find it any more).

It's probably still worthwhile to contact them.
They might not rent short term, but maybe would make an exception for someone who is a company customer in another state.
Even if they don't, they might be able to refer you to someone else who would.

Thanks Sue. I called Care Medical as I didn't want to rent from ScootAround again after my horrible experience in 2011 with them. Apple was OK to rent from too. But, I wanted to try Care. I called them, and in spite of spelling my last name wrong. Which was corrected later. I was asked how tall I was, how much I weighed, where my friend, significant other, and I will be staying. Plus what make/model of the power chair I used at home. So, that they can drop off/pick up the Jazzy power chair that I'm renting. A traditional scooter would be too hard for me to manage. My friend is thinking of renting that type of scooter. The one that has three, or four wheels.

Even though it is going to be expensive for the rental, for the time we are there. It's worth every penny of not having to take my manual wheelchair, and having someone push me all over the parks. I am taking my walker, and using the airport wheelchair. We are also going to Universal too. I can't remember if I mentioned it already. But, we are going to be using LYNX paratransit. Which Care Medical was kind of concerned about when they had asked me how I was going to transport it. But, I can't understand why.
