Please explain why alamo was too difficult with kids? Because I might go with Alamo. Is it because it used to NOT be in the airport? If so, it is now.

I rented a minivan through Alamo Oct 4 - 11 for base rate of 158.19---with tax the total is 204.28. I used a BY code.

This was a few years ago with Alamo and it was offsite...just frustrating to take the bus with the 2 kids and luggage and stroller then go wait in another line to get the car ....
I will only go onsite this time...much easier...but if you get a good rate go for it!

Alamo is onsite now. They are partners with National and share a desk with them at MCO.

How far in advance has anyone booked??

November is when we are thinking of going...

last time we used Budget and we didn't want the insurance and they told my DH to sign here and he ended up initialing for the insurance....so we ended up paying $200.00 what a mess!!!

I get a base rate of $329.96 for 10 days with Dollar with a code from http://www.pcpages.com/rentalcodes/ for dates in november. The only catch is you have to pick the van up between a sunday and a wednesday. The code expires in mid-december.

Budget pulled that same insurance scam on us, but after a few phone calls when we got home which included threats to call the Better Business Bureau and dispute the amount on our credit card, they cancelled the added insurance cost. The following trip, we booked through Priceline and got Budget again. There is a box at the bottom of their form where they can fill in the expected balance when the car is returned. Anyone booking through Budget should have this box completed when picking up their car.

We have used L&M rental company two times. They are right in the airport and you don't have to get on a bus to get the cars. The cars are right outside the airport. We always get the best rate from them. We use Orbits to find the rates.

We rent from Hertz which is offsite. We never wait more than a minute for the shuttle bus to pull out of the airport. We are driving out of the Hertz lot in 10 mins or less.

So you don't always save time by renting onsite. It took us longer than that when we rented at National.

When returning the car, we do curbside check in and then return the car. Very fast and easy.
