I haven't booked airfare in some time since we have taken to driving, but going back to flying maybe for our upcoming trip. What's the cheapest. Newark or Philly would be closest but if we had to, we'd consider Atlantic City but only if our savings was enough to cover a hotel stay the night before, which probably wouldn't be!

We flew out of Lehigh Valley (ABE) last time and it was great, so quiet and stress-free. DH loved flying out of there so much that he says he'll never fly out of Philly again. We got a great rate, under $200 a person on Airtran.

We ALWAYS fly out of Philly, Southwest. Park at any one of the parking lots off Essington Ave. Coupons are always available and the parking is cheap when compared to parking on site. Shuttles are quick and drivers are good. We use the Parking Spot. SWA flights are usually always ahead of schedule in both directions in and out of Orlando. We've flown to Orlando about 6 times in the past year and a half and were ahead of schedule every time, behind once on the way back.

Flights are available right now for $79 in January. No baggage fees either. Word is Sprit is charging not only for bags, but carry ons too.

Atlantic City does charge for carry-on but not a personal item. So my DD8 and DN9 will use a bacpack and my DD1 and myself can fit our stuff in a xlarge diaper bag. DH will be using a xlarge bag also. We are only going for 4 nights so its not alot of clothes anyway. I got 4 roundtrip tix for $396. Would've been $250 if I bought them two weeks before but we were undecided on the trip. It is definately no frills but I would rather save money and like how small and easy it is to navigate the airport.

If you do fly Spirit out of ACY, be aware that they recently reduced the weight limit for CHECKED bags from the standard 50# down to 40#. Anything over that and you are charged a hefty surcharge. Just be aware of all the extras you pay for with Spirit - seat selection - carry on bag - and checked bags when you are comparing prices. As PP said, it is a very small and easily navigated airport.

Airtran will no longer offer service from Atlantic City to Orlando as of Jan. 7th 2012.

You have lots of time. Keep an eye on all the airports closest to you. Just keep in mind baggage fees, parking costs and time is money. Living only a 10 minute drive from Newark the deal has to be great to get me to go elsewhere these days.

As said previously, Airtran is going away, a business decision by Southwest who took over the company. Spirit flies out of AC and touts their having the lowest airfares in ads, but make sure you find out the total fees you will be paying on top of the airfare. Spirit recently announced an increase in the online booking fee. They seem to be one of the "innovators" in adding on fees to the ticket price. Also, while parking used to be free at AC, it is now $9 a day I beleive for surface lots, and $12 a day for the garage.

Spirit % ACY has many added fees; baggage, carry-on, seat assignments. And although I've never had any issues, I've heard their customer service is the worst.

However, you can get amazingly low airfares, which many times (but not always) will be much less than flying out of Philly or Newark. Plus flying in and out of ACY is very easy and takes a lot of the hassle out of flying.

Just remember to factor in the extra costs.

We've flown Spirit many times and wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Spirit has the schedule out already for when we have to fly but I am so confused on the luggage and other added fees! Its only 69 one way to get there! But I'm thinking once we add on the other fees, we will be much higher than other airlines!

When I have looked for flights I have always gotten the best deals out of Newark on continental

I just booked for May with Southwest. We normally fly Spirit out of AC but this time, with their fees, Southwest was about the same price, we can take more bags and the flight time works better. I would not hesitate to fly Spirit if the fare is good.
