we are looking into going to disney next feb or april during school vacation (3rd week) instead of our usual august trip.. my only concern is the cost of the airfare.. Did anyone get a good rate as soon as the dates were released or do they just start off very high?? we are flexible for hartford and provi. as well... not that it makes too much of a difference.. :cool2:

We are flying SW out of Providence this year for February vacation. I think if you can leave a few days before or come back a few days later you will do better. I was on the computer the day SW opened its fares (mid September)that covered that week. The less expensive weekend flights before and after, as well as the Monday and Friday of vacation week, were unavailable right from the start. I played with the dates and was able to get 4 tickets flying down on Wednesday 2/21 and home on Tuesday 2/27 for $950 which I was willing to pay. Within a few weeks I was able to get sale fares of $59 each way and ended up saving $400. We got the difference in SW credit but knew we were flying again and would use it before it expired. My 2 oldest kids will miss 2 days of school but I felt it was worth it to get the prices I was able to get.

Oh I WISH i could do this.... being a school teacher by contract we cant take days off before after vaction...

Check going out of Manchester, NH. Our school vacation week (NH) is the week after yours so you might do better. I tend to fly out of Logan for our school vacation weeks as its much less expensive than flying out of NH.

This is good advice, and you might have better luck in April than in February. February fares are ALWAYS high. We fly to Ft Myers every February, and because we can, we usually leave the Weds night before Feb school vacation, and we still pay close to $280 for round trip/non stops.

Not as many people are clamoring to get out of New England in April, so the fares aren't quite a crazy.

I was able to book r/t from BOS to Tampa from sat 2/17 to Sunday 2/25 for $258 no-stop! This is on Delta and I was able to book this the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. I had been checking flights on kayak.com from June I think. I knew what I wanted to pay, and just kept checking. I think you might be ok for next April as it's not anywhere near Easter. If you have a price range in mind of what is acceptable for you, I would keep checking search engines like kayak.com.

Good Luck!

I have to warn you that if you are trying to get SW during school vacation week, it is really tough. Last year, I tried for April vacation. I watched every day, several times a day. I finally booked within 2 hours of the fares opening and can you believe that there were several people much faster then me? All of Saturday and Sunday flights were booked (at least the ones at the low rate) for both Manchester, NH and coming home from Orlando. I managed to settle flying Monday to Monday. This year, the same thing happened only I was lucky I got Sunday to Monday. I just want to warn you that they book really fast.

For school vacation weeks DO NOT WAIT FOR SWA to release thier fares. I did that and missed out on other good fares. If you can have the kids miss days of school then it is OK. But if you need flights on bothe weekends book on other airlines if they have good fares. Luckilly I had a free ticket I could use but still ended up paying $400 a ticket to go on the weekends.

Luckily I am moving to Kansas and will not have to deal with Feb/Prez week vacations any more. After a few years of this I am convinced (next to XMAS week) it is the most expensive week to travel south in the year. I even checked cruises and they are $2000 more for that week as well.

Good Luck !!

We did the southwest game last august and i ended up with 106 each way and if i had booked in march..through delta it was 157 rt.. wont play that game again. I think we will end up in april just b/c the weather is too unpredictable up here (last night??? where did this snow come from) in feb. and id worry about flying out/home and orlando may not be consistantly warm either which means packing jackets :sad2: not somthing i like bringing.. so thanks for all the advice..

February. We are flying out of Logan to Orlando on JetBlue and our tickets were $257 r/t.
