Just thought I'd let people know about considering the drive-in movies to see their favorite movies and save a bundle. We are going to see Toy Story 3 tonight and it is only $20 a carload. Since my car fits seven, this is a great deal.

The regular movie theatre near here is about $12...even the matinees are almost $10 so for our family of 5, that is about $60 minimum if we go one evening.

Kids are excited....I'm just hoping I can stay awake long enough!!:lmao:

I wish it would play at our drive -in but our drive in won't or can't show 3D movies.

While it is indeed a great value, it goes without saying there are fewer than 400 drive-in theaters remaining in the U.S -- particularly in the Northeast, where the vast majority of people posting on this board are from...

In fact, those opeators that remain tend to be in small towns, or outside the city limits on state/U.S. highways.

As for 3-D movies, that will most likely not happen only because of the costs of the advanced technology (drive-ins mainly cater to the budget-minded/nostalgic crowds).

On an "up" note, I live about a mile from the only remaining Drive-in theater in the St. Louis metropolitan area - it IS good, inexpensive family fun.

They would jsut show the 2-d version of it then... (and from what i hear, there isn't that much of a difference anyway)

The only drive in near me (a sadly dying breed) charges 10 per adult and kids under 16 are free.

hey! we went to the drive in last night to see Toy Story 3 also! Are you in MA? We went to Mendon...had a great time. I picked up a couple of pizzas on the way and packed drinks and snacks. Can't beat $20 for a car load, especially if you stay for the second movie also (it's too late for me!)

that's a great idea! it's a pitty drive-in's are dying out, it's a neat experence! Have a great time and dont' forget the bugspray!

We are so excited as we have been holding out till this weekend to see it at the drive in. For us it is part of the summer time fun! It is especially great with little ones as it is much easier as they can move around. LOVE THE DRIVE IN!!! Just hope it is not too crowded.

We love our local Drive In theater - our 1st movie there this year was How to Train Your Dragon!

12 & older are $7 each
5-11 are $3
4 and under are FREE

Plus they show 2 movies ~ but the 2nd one is really late, the 1st can't start till it's dark - 9:30pm

We haven't seen TS3 yet, perhaps we'll go to the drive in.

I never thought of the drive-in thanks for mentioning it! We have a drive-in about 15 minutes away so I'll check and see if they are playing it.

We usually go to the drive in quite a bit during the summer. They did raise the prices this year at the one we go to. It's $8 for 12 and over, $2 for 5-11 and 4 and under are free. So it's $26 for our family to get in. It's still not bad considering we can bring in whatever we want to eat/drink and we get to see 2 movies for that price.

There's a drive-in in Hockely, Texas but it's a lil' over an hour drive for me.

Adults - $5
Kids 3-12yrs - $4

I remember when my parents would take us to the drive-in movie... we would have such a great time. popcorn::popcorn::

I wish we still had a drive in...but even back in the late 80's they charged per person , not per car. That is a great deal!!! Enjoy...sounds like fun!

There is a nice drive in about 50miles away from Disney..a real nice one too

Ours is $8 per person. Kids under 10 are free and it's not in 3D. Our regular is $9 for the matinee and it's cooler in there.

We love our local drive-in, we live in a rural area so the stores as well as many other things are not close so in the summer months we love having the drive in only 5 minutes away its $8 for adults and $5 for children our boys are considered adults so not a big savings from the movie theater but its close and fun. When we had a pick-up truck we used to back it in and put the lounge chairs in the back of the truck and lay under the stars and watch the movie with our drinks and snacks lots of fun. Linda :)

There is a code in the cereal box....6 codes= free movie ticket (from what I read it isn't just for ts3 either) to go see toy story 3. There are other things you can trade points for as well. 3 codes=$5 in concession cash for popcorn, etc. DH just took DD#1 for free :) Tomorrow night I get to take DD#2 (just bought more cereal, printing off ticket now!).

Guess it's a good thing we like cereal around here!

Thanks for the idea. I just went and checked the website for the drive in here. And it's expensive! They charge per person. And it's 8.50 for adults ans 5 for kids. And it's 45 mins away from my house. The really nice stadium theater down the street charges 9.75 (which I think is too much). But at least it's closer and I could go in the afternoon. Oh well! Thanks again for the idea! Would've been awesome if it was a lot cheaper!
