Cheap things to do in the greater Orlando area?

Our trip is a bit far off, but I'm considering varying it up a bit. We always do full park days, every day. But this time, we're going for ten days in June and because of the heat and crowds, I know we'll need to take some time off. Obviously we can hit the pools, but what else off Disney property is there to do that is cheap, low-key and not likely to be crowded? We're not shoppers, so I'm thinking something more like a cool park, museum or zoo. Does anyone have ideas or good experiences to share? We don't mind driving a bit, if necessary. I'm thinking we may hit the Kennedy Space Center.

Thanks in advance! Oh and just in case this influences your suggestions, my daughters will be 7 and 5.

I'm also interested in this...we're going for 10 days, but not spending every day at a park. My kids are around the same age as well.

Try googling Rock Springs in Apopka. We went there last year. We rented tubes right outside the park and spent all afternoon floating down the stream. It's about a 10 minute float that ends in a sanding beach area. We went mid May. I would imagine it would be crowded in the summer.
