Our stroller literally died on our last day in WDW. We thought we would not need one again. But of course we have decided to return to WDW this fall :yay: My son will have just turned 5. Based on our last trip I know he will need a stroller again for some of the days. He is very tall for his age. What would you recommend for a cheap stroller that would be able to carry a 45+ pound tall 5 yr old?

to carry heavy weight in a stroller they have to have strong wheels, axles, seats, etc, exactly what you can't buy or make cheap. To carry an older child you won't be able to get away with one of the real cheap ones. Of course when I see what some people on here pay for a stroller I may not know what you consider cheap. Cheap to me is $20-$25.

To carry 50 pounds I don't think you will find anything that could be called truly cheap. If it was me I'd go the truly cheap way and have them use their own 2 feet, can't get any cheaper than that! but that is up to you.

If you are only going to use it a couple of days why not wait and if really needed then rent for a day or 2? has to be cheaper than buying a stroller that can support 50+ pounds.

I would just buy a cheapie umbrella stroller. It will last a trip or two and your son will not need one after that. I forgot my DD's stroller when she was 6 and the cheapie $20 Kolcraft I bought at Toys-R-Us was just fine. It was new, so it rolled without a problem even with her 45 lb weight in it. Will it last forever? Nope. Will it last for a couple of trips? You bet!

FWIW, my DD loved riding in a stroller and would *still* ride in one if we let her! We started weaning her from hers when she was about 6 and we would only use it at night and at Epcot. Then only at night and then finally only on New Year's Eve when we rented a double for her (before the prices went up).

I know you said cheap, but I would go with a Maclaran if you can afford it. Still cheaper then renting (usually) and you'll have it at all times. I wish I could offer up something cheaper but as soon as my DS hit about 35 lbs the cheaper strollers became a pain in the rear to push. I had loved my cheapies before that point. Maybe you could borrow one from a friend.

If you are really looking for cheap, how about working up to no stroller at all? Could you get him walking a bit before you go to build up a little endurance? Then when you get there, go slower, take breaks and rest a little bit more than before.

Then if you really, really still need one, rent one for a day at a time.

At 50lbs you need a higher quality stroller. We had bought a Mac for our trip but i knew i was pg again so i knew it would be used. Honestly- i would just rent one there if you feel you need it.

I'm gonna have to agree with most of the PPs. You won't get a decent stroller (for your kid's comfort and your ease of pushing) for that weight "cheap." What are you looking to spend?

I'm a huge fan of children's consignment sales! It's the perfect place to get a great, sturdy stroller of excellent quality and not have to spend too much, since you won't have much use for it after your trip. You could maybe do a google search for a spring sale in your area. Or check your local kids directory or family magazine for sale dates. If you can't find a sale, you could always try an actual children's consignment shop. I've had great luck with equipment purchases at the sales in my area! We'll be in the same boat for our trip this October. My son will have just turned 5, but we'll definitely want a stroller to use so we can move around the park faster. Good luck!!

I was going to suggest this too.
My 5 year old can ride comfortable in our Big Graco -
he's a little long in it an a little awkward when sleeping but it works.
so if you don't want to rent the jogging stroller down there, take a loved one from home:thumbsup2
