Cheap, short stops from PA to MO?

Anyone know, we may be making a quick trip from PA to MO. I don't really want to go but if we take the boys (8 and 5) I could make a fun "see the areas" trip out of it. Are there any quick stops for things to see between the two? DS8 was born in MO so I'd like to take him to see where he was born, but driving straight through does not interest me, long stops won't work. We'll be doing it over a 3 day weekend... Any ideas to get me started looking would be greatly appreciated! :goodvibes

TIA

At what location will your trip start in PA?

We just had a great time in Columbus Ohio- great zoo, great ice cream at Jeni's, friendly people. We just stayed one night and then traveled on.

North in Ohio- we went to African Safari

We loved it- so funny but if you have a nice car skip it because it gets slobbered all over it and in it. Really incredible though. Print coupons out if you go from their website saves you more than 60%

Then we hit Cedar Point- which we loved. Stayed at Lighthouse Point - so cute little cabin- with a grill. Tickets to get in were only $29. Super fun!

Last day we went to Cuyahoga National Park in Ohio and had a great time hiking around the Ledge area. Saw the ice cave- just an area with really cold air. And had a great nature day.

So that's what we saw in Ohio- maybe one of those would work? We were pleasantly surprised.

Thank you I will check those out!

We are starting in central pa and ending in southern mo..

We did a big midwest vacation last summer and drove from St. Louis back to Pittsburgh on the way home. A fun, free stop in Dayton, Ohio, is the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Little boys like planes!

OP said "Southern MO", so I will assume that is somewhere along the I-55 corridor.

That said, if you're starting in PA, you will pass-through the following large towns/cities along I-70 East:

  • Columbus, OH
  • Dayton, OH (home of the U.S. Air Force Museum!)
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • St. Louis, MO

St. Louis gets frequently discoussed on this board, so I'll leave that one alone, but if any of you are from the other places along I-70, now's your chance to talk-up your town!

Yeah, I have no idea HOW to get there! DH has the GPS in his head  and I've not decided I REALLY want to do this... after a terrible car accident in December (TOTALLY not our fault) I'm not too keen on being in a car period.... certainly not a long drive (and quick drive) like this :headache:

I do remember St. Louis being along the way, and probably would stop to see the arch, and the fantastic Mexican restaurant we once ate in if we can remember it... oh that was heavenly :cloud9:

BUT being a home schooler I can't resist the temptation to use this "free trip" to see some places along the way. PP's have some great ideas so far, I'm going to check them when I am back home with my "real" computer! Keep 'em coming :cool1:
