I just saw a thread about eyeglasses and I have to buy my son a pair of sports glasses for baseball. The common name i have seen is RECSPECS or REC SPECS. Does anyone know where you can buy them cheapest? I have seen 75 for frames + 75 for lenses so they will run about $150. I already looked at Walmart and Bj's and they dont carry them. Thanks for any help.

I just paid $280 for my son's pair at a designer glasses place caled "Art for your Face" because I couldn't find them anywhere! Then I found them at Lenscrafters and Eyeglass World. You got a good deal at the $150 price. FYI Lenscrafters has 50% off all glasses for children - my son has a large face and has to get adult frames and I found out that he would still get the discount even buying frames outside the children's section. Lensceafetrs also has AAA discounts.

Thanks Ali! I guess I better just go for the $150. I will also check with Lenscrafters...i did not know about the 30% off with AAA. Thanks for your help.

Have you ever thought of contacts? They are not for everyone.... but they certainly worked for my DS's. My oldest has been wearing them since he was 8 or 9 years old with no problems.

Good luck finding a solution! :)

You might also want to Google "rec specs" and see what's available on-line. There are many sites out there. I checked one and the price of the frames was $59.99.

My son's rec specs came as a package deal for $169, lenses and frames. I did, however, pay the extra to have the lenses 'polarized' (they turn into sunglasses outside).

Especially for baseball when the sun creates so much glare depending on time of day, it was well worth the extra money to make it easier for him to see.

Do you have America's Best anywhere near you? You should check tem out - they have EXECLENT deals _ I actually got my eyes checked there for less than at Costco.

I have a friend in FL who loves America's Best. Thanks for the ideas. I think my $150 is definitley fair game. They optical center i use will also provide 1 year coverage for free.

Thanks....i can double check walmart because they might be a special order where any optical center can order them. He already had eye exam and I have the prescription so I can go anywhere.

I think $150 is pretty good. We paid around $175 at Eyeland Optical every year for our oldest son until he got contacts at age 9. I can't tell you what a relief that was! He loves contacts! Fitting the rec specs under football helmets-huge pain. They slide down every time the helmet was pulled down. He would be the only kid not taking his helmet off for water breaks in 90 degree weather because it was such a hassle for him.

We paid $150 at our eye doctor for the Rec Specs. I went online and pulled the style that DS wanted and they ordered them for us. He wanted a more sportier model then the basic "goggles" and they look more like sunglasses.

I'll have to ask about the transition lenses next time. I swear they told us that it could not be done for these.
