To fully use up all $100 in the 12 month period, you would have 8800 texts for the year. 8 months @ $10 each would be 8000 texts, plus 4 months at $5 each would be 800 texts to use up the full $100.So in dummy terms for us that are slow: With tracfone we are paying $100 for 900 minutes (double phone) so 2700 texts. With your deal, for $100 we would get about 7,000 texts? I can put $100 on it in January and then not worry about it until next January?
Another thing to note is, there is a limit of amount of texts you can roll over. I think it is 3x the largest amount you can add for the month (the 1000 @$10). So, you can have 3000 texts max on your account. If you roll over and add texts for the month and the addition and rollover will exceed 3000, then you lose whatever is over 3000.
Because I flip-flop month to month on whether I put 1000 or 200 texts on the phones, there is always a little money left over on the account (I started last Christmas with a few months of uploading $15 each month) that way I have some extra money on the account to use for phone calls at $0.10/minute.
My wife texts more than twice as much as I do. She uses about 700 texts per month and that eats up $100 exactly. The $100 for a year is even way more than I need for my cell usage, so I have a bit of buildup of money on the account for my phone.
There's another note, each phone is individual accounts per the phone number. I have to log in individually to upload money and add the text packages to each phone. With our old Tracfones, we were on a monthly family plan ($9.99 first phone and $5.99 each extra phone getting 100 minutes for first phone (50 x double minutes) and 80 minutes (40 x double minutes) on extra phones.)
So, all-in-all, yes, with the GoPhone, we get a lot more than we did with Tracfone, though the family plan with 2 Tracfones was $192 for the year and 2 GoPhones it will be $200 for the year, only $8 more.
