What is it about Houston airfare and never beoing able to get a great deal?

Example:
Houston-Orlando-Houston via southwest 159 per person each way plus Tax
Buffalo-Orlando-Buffalo via southwest 59 per persson each way plus Tax
Houston-Orlando-Buffalo via southwest 159 per person each wway plus tax (same flight numbers As Buffalo-Orlando--Buffalo)
Its cheaper to fly from Ontario Canada to Orlando than it is to fly to Houston.

ANyone got any tips Im missing?

I don't have any tips. I just want to say I share your pain. We're not going to Florida until Christmas 2005, but if the fares next year are the same as I have seen from Houston this year, then we'll we driving.

We just got back, and we ended up getting 212.00 round trip per person. Not too bad, but nothing like the sub 100.00 round trip some people seem to find.

I have not figured out the airfare deals either! If we can get PDX to MCO for under $230 that is a GREAT deal!

ShaneV - How was the Christmas tree for SSR? We get it in less than a week! :cheer2:

I feel your frustration. I want to go too but will not because of the airfare. This june we paid $212 per person which was very hard for us because before that we usually got great rates around $100 but those rates have been gone all year long. Hope they do come up with good rates because now Southwest $159 rate looks like it will be the lowest for Houstonians.

I want to find a cheap fare TO Houston. Do those ever come about for summer travel?

I booked our June 05 tickets w/Continental for $504 rt for 2 of us. If I would have waited for Southwest it would have cost about the same and they only have their dates open until the 6th. We are returning on the 11th so I would have had to book one way tickets then waited around to purchase the other. Not worth it to me. I also woundered why it costs so much to fly from Houston.

The four of us fly out Thursday from Hobby on Southwest at $848 ($212 x 4) round trip. Yuck.

Its been a couple of years since we were able to get some really good deal in the $170's. Oct 2003 we paid $250 pp, June 2004 and this Dec we paid $202 pp but I never see the great deals like the ones I see for the East coast airlines like Song or JetBlue.
And if you happen to see a decent fair you have to fly to Atlanta or somewhere on a 3 hour flight--layover for 3 or 4 hours then fly to Orlando--another 3 hour flight. I dont really want to spend a week just getting to Orlando so we just fly SW. Those NS flghts are great.

If it makes you feel any better, I think this is true for all of Texas. I don't understand it either?

My buddy got 165 round trip fro DFW this Dec with Delta.

rsschneck-
The tree was really nice to have and handed to the next family on Sat! Let me know when you get it!

How long ago did he purchase that airfare from DFW to MCO? I have been checking their prices for about 2-3 months and I missed that one?!?!?!? For 165.00 I would be willing to have at least 1 stop. What time are the flights and for what days? :earseek:

It was leavinf Dec 2 getting back Dec 11, and it was non stop :)

ShaneV - We up in Canada cannot fly out of Canada for those good deals, we have to travel to Buffalo first. Makes no sense to me but for my family of 6 to fly out of Toronto it would have been $2000 US for us all to fly out of Buffalo $451 US. How these airlines set their prices is way beyond me - but good luck and keep looking, a deal may just show up.

We just got back from WDW and drove this and last time.
It started getting to expensive to fly for family of 4 when we started going
more often, had to include rent car or transportation once there.
The drive is not that bad, I would rather not do it but.
Our cost for fuel was about 140 each way, and that is with a Ford F150 4wheel drive (15mpg). We packed sandwich stuff, VCR for the kids. On the way back left Disney at 6am and arrived in galveston 9pm.
I figure that we saved about 500.
But if lotto comes through for me I will be flying next time.. hehehe :D
