Hi  ,

We were hoping to go to Disneyland Pairs this Christmas but it seems REALLY expensive this year for when we were wanting to go. Anyway, we have found a really good deal for accommodation only at a ski hotel in New England (White Mountain Valley) We have never been to New England before, except I have been to Boston once (but for business not leisure :( ). Apparently it is 2 and a half hours from Boston Airport.

Does anybody know any good places I can try for cheap flights to Boston for this December? I guess they will be quite expensive for when we were hoping to go (December 27th - January 4th). If that's the case then we could possibly go early December if the prices for flights are cheaper.

Thanks.

Richard. :)

Somewhere in my head I think flights start going up for the Xmas/New Year hols around Dec 17th or thereabouts. I know I saw that date when checking for New York flights in November. Could be wrong of course! Best thing to do is find a site and keep putting in dates until you find what the cut off point is!

If it's just flights Opodo are doing some good BA flights and generally coming up a bit cheaper than anyone else. I know several people here use Bon Voyage but they seem to need you to book either accommodation or car hire with them to get the flight deals.

Other places I use would be Expedia UK, Gate 62.com, Airborn Direct, lastminute.com as well as checking the BA and Virgin sites direct

Hi Richard

I just had a quick look at Opodo for you as I'm still messing around with our trip to NYC.

They have flights for your dates direct LHR to Logan for £294.40 adult and £218.40 child inc taxes with BA and a few pounds more with Air Canada. Or at least it came out as £512.80 for 1 adult one child (obviously I don't know how many of you there are in your family :))

Doesn't sound bad to me as you're travelling at a peak time and around £65 of that is taxes...depends on what you call cheap I suppose :)

Thanks, NWR.

That sounds like a really good price, was that for December 27 - January 4?

Can you give me the website for Opodo?

How are you getting on finding flights for NY?

Thanks again.

Richard. :)

Yes, it was for your exact dates out Sat 27th Dec and flying back on Sun Jan 4th (arriving back here the 5th Jan)

You can find opodo at

www.opodo.co.uk

I've booked with them for Tampa in Oct 2 Adults 2 kids direct with BA for 1,114 and Virgin flights to New York are working out at 457.20 for the 3 of us (me and 2 kids, DH staying home) in November - so they are really coming up with the goods at the moment!

I think we'll just go goat class to NY and use the £720 I save on going PE to pay for our Halloween trip to DLP :)

A wise choice! New York is a much shorter flight time than Orlando, so I'm sure that you can slum it in cattle class for a few hours in order to enjoy a short break to DLP!!

Couldn't agree more Rob, I don't find East coast flights so bad, it's West coast when I need coddling LOL

Richard: I had trouble booking my NY flights with Opodo, maybe the site is too busy. If you find this try www.Expedia.co.uk as they have the same BA LHR to Logan offer. I just used them for NY and I've used them before several times with no problems.

If you do try Expedia try a quote including car hire with your flights as they can come up with some good combined prices.

Here's what I do.......

If you go to the BA website and put in your prefered dates - it'll give you the prices for 7 days either side of your chosen date. Youcan then pick out the cheapest dates for each leg. I then put those dates into Opodo and Expedia as they are usually slightly cheaper than booking with BA direct. Its easier doing itthat way that changing the dates a day at a time in Expedia :D

I've used that method too Tracey.

Let us know how you get on Richard. I don't know the particular area of New England you're going to but I'm sure it will be great, we've mainly travelled the coastal areas of MA and ME.

We booked via Expedia, thanks for the link NWR.

Total for 4 adults and 2 children (travelling with friends) return flights with American Airlines was £1,656.

AA had better flight times and I personally prefer them to BA anyway.

Already booked the hotel, we rang them direct and the lady did us a 'special deal' for 2 rooms so now we have it all booked :)

Thanks very much for all of your help. :)

Richard.

Glad to hear you got it all booked Richard. What a nice way to spend the New Year and, if this past winter there is anything to go by, you'll definitly see some snow!

you'll definitly see some snow!

I certainly hope so! Hopefully we will get snowed in and wont be able to fly home - what a shame that would be.

Only 17 days to go - are you gettting a tad excited yet? ;)

Oh, just a little bit ;)

With reference to getting snowed in, and after I read some stories here earlier in the year, have you considered making a reservation for a cheap airport hotel the day you fly home, just in case? Most rooms can be cancelled up until 3/4pm the day of arrival. Something to fall back on if the worst happens and all hell breaks loose.

That's an extremely good idea. Thank-You.

Do you anywhere I can try for an airport hotel in Boston?

Thanks yet again!,

Richard. :)

This is a list of hotels in the Logan Airport vicinity

http://www.boston-bos.com/hotels.html

Then the next best thing is to check the actual hotel reservation sites as they usually give you the most leeway when it comes to cancelling ie day of arrival.

Next best thing would be any of the 'book cheap hotels' here sites some of which let you cancel from 24 hours up to the day of arrival, you just need to check their policy.

We have been to New England several times and I have to say, is one of the most beautiful areas in the US. We rented a fantastic ski lodge in Campton, in the white mountains of New Hampshire for a few weeks in the fall and it was magical. We arrived when the leaves were starting to change colour and I remember sitting out on the deck carving pumpkins for halloween whilst the trees were shedding the leaves. We did actually see some snowflakes towards the end of the holiday too so I would say yes, you're VERY likely to see snow at Christmas!! It is worth either renting or buying snow chains for your rental car.

Waterville Valley was the main ski area - you might find this link useful http://www.waterville.com/

Having experienced skiing for the first time this year, I really fancy going back to Waterville Valley as the facilities look good.

Let me know if you'd like any more info.

Fiona

BTW, the Ben and Jerrys factory in Vermont is well worth a visit!!

NWR:
Thanks for the site :)

Most hotels don't seem to be taking reservations yet. I'll check again in a month or two and hopefully book somewhere up which will allow us to cancel incase the weather turns inclement. Thank-You for all of your help.

Fiona:
Thank-You very much for the information - it is great!
The link is good too - thanks again.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream - our DS's Favourite (well, and mine ;) ) This will definitely be a must visit!

I'm sure we will have some more questions - I'll remember to ask you - thanks for your help.

Richard. :)

:Pinkbounc Hi Richard,
When we went to Boston last Jan ( for the sales ) we stayed at the Comfort Inn Revere, it was not in the middle of Boston but on the outskirts, but it was a nice hotel. We have booked to stay again when we go back next Jan. We booked our holiday through Vigin Travel Store. :bounce:
