Than the rest of what? It sounds like you've already compared prices in Albany to other places. How far are you willing to drive to save a few bucks? When you you flying? Just try Kayak.com and put in some other airports, but your only other major options are NYC or Rochester, but that's a heck of a long drive in either direction just to save some airline fees.

Hartford might have some options.

found some good rates out of whiteplains/westchester..JB...about 300.00 cheaper then sw out of albany... almost 3 hr drive but its well worth it to save $300.00

Direct Air out of Plattsburgh NY has great rates. We booked the 4 of us for $800.00 Direct flights to Lakeland - not Orlando, but it's maybe 15 - 20 minutes longer to get to Kissimmee than Orlando

Definately try Direct air. But you can not use ME if you are planning to go to Disney. You would have to rent a car or find some other means.

I know this is western, ny and probably not close enough but we're paying $227 per person from Rochester to Orlando on airtran in May. Back in 2009 we paid $180 per person for the same flight :(

When are you looking to fly? How much is SW asking for that time?

from albany to orlando leaving aug 4th is $1300.00 total from SW in albany.. if i fly jetblue out of newburgh or bradley(CT) it is runs around 980-1030...pretty big savings... only difference is bradley or newburgh is 2.5 hr drive whereas albany only 45 min ride, plus 100.00 to park at newburgh and i can find ride to albany.... big decisions coming up..have to book by first week feb

We live outside of Rochester but are flying out of Syracuse on Jetblue in early August. We found direct flights for $114 each way direct. With taxes/fees it came out to be around $1000 for 4. The morning (going down) flight has changed to $144 but the return trip (leaves at 5pm) is still $114. When we went down around Thanksgiving, same flights were over $1900 for all of us. We drove.

I'm assuming this is for 4 people round trip?

Not sure if this helps you or not, but if it were me I'd go with what's closer. I sometimes drive one hour to Buffalo...but 2.5 hours just to catch a plane in a different city (and then drive home again after you return) seems like a lot to save only 300 for 4 people. Not knowing exactly what you're looking at, I can only guess that, per person, it's about 80 more per round trip. Then you add parking and save even less. Plus flying out of an airport you're not familiar with, and dealing with possible wx driving home when you return. Lots of reasons I'd just pay a bit more. But, I'd need more info, like which airlines you're comparing, etc. Also, are your dates flexible? Sometimes leaving or returning on a slightly different day can make a difference.

We live in Upstate and choose either a 1 hour drive to SYR, 1.5 hours to ROC or 2.5 hours to BUF. If we are lucky, we may find a good deal out of ITH which is still 1 hour away. For the most part we fly out of ROC and BUF. Last year JetBlue stopped their direct flights from ROC to MCO so we started flying BUF more. I cannot tell you the last time we flew out of SYR because their prices are always the highest.

Are you finding cheaper rates from Buffalo instead of Rochester? Airtran is usually the best deal to MCO, with the same price in Buffalo, only giving SW a possible advantage in Buffalo, but I've never found anything on SW cheaper than airtran in ROC.
