I'm looking for a way to score several cheap flannel throws. The adoption kennel I adopted my greyhound from is in need prior to cold weather to keep the puppers warm.

I've checked ebay and a couple sites online ( like overstock.com ). Since the cheaper ones I found were around $17. a piece, it was more than I really wanted to spend as I would like to box up and send about 15-20 for the kennel.

Anyone know where to look?

They have small ones at the Dollar Tree back in the baby section. They're like small receiving blankets.

Would getting a bolt of fleece or flannel fabric and cutting it up into blanket size pieces with a pinking shears work? I haven't priced material in ages, so I have no idea what the cost would be.

My suggestion.......go to joann's this week and buy an entire bolt of one color......cheapest one you can find and give it to them. They can make the size blankets that they want. (i know i prefer a certain size for certain crates.) The fleece is 50% off and the flannel is 60% off! I prefer one color because then i KNOW its mine, and there is no chance of colors bleeding in the wash.

OOOOOOO just saw that your not local.....buy online and have it shipped! or send them a gift card and they can go buy the fleece.

Hi , there !

How nice of you to want to help the kennel ! With the poor economy, organizations such as this are suffering more than usual.

Throws are one of the things that I always see for cheap prices at the after-Thanksgiving sales. I always buy a few to give as gifts, etc. and my furbaby loves to get a new one now & then as well ! You should easily be able to get some for $5 each (last year, I got some for $4 each at the early AM After-Thanksgiving Sale at either Kohl's or Belk, can't remember which one now) & they are usually the larger ones.

I also like the idea that was posted for buying fabric !

Our local Weis Markets are selling fleece throw blankets 4 for $10 (so basically just $2.50 each). I've seen similar deals this Fall at other grocery & drug stores... so check those types of stores in your local area too.

The option of buying a bolt of an appropriate fabric (flannel, fleece or faux lambswool) is also a good idea. I raised show dogs for a lot of years, and frequently purchased fabric that way (by yards or bolts) to make my own whelping box liners, crate rugs & cushions for the hounds. It is often a much more economical way to go.

OT: Matt's mom, I hate when you post, everytime i look at that avator i get jealous beyond jealous. I sooo want a lil beagle boy that looks just like your avator.....LOL There is a breeder that i will see this weekend that i just drool over her dogs. sighhhhhhh, maybe eventually i will have a dog that does come from the pound. (i say that as my rachey bear looks up at me with her loving eyes and realize this devotion only comes from the pound bound crew)

Just making sure you know i am teasing, I love seeing pics of that sweet face!

I always find amazing deals on throws after the holidays. Maybe get 5 or so this year, and after the holidays, stock up for next year. I got like 3 throws last year from wal-mart for like 2$ a piece.

You could also look at the salvation army store, or ask on freecycle.

OK, you all. Since I'm totally not crafty, I went on Joann's but don't know how to buy an entire bolt of fabric. It appears all the fabric is sold by the yard and I don't even know how many yards are in a bolt. Help?

Ok did you see the fleece that was half off? You go up to the cutting desk and tell them you want an entire bolt of any color fleece. They will know how many yards are in it. You could get 2 nice size blankets per yard. (like 22" x36") BUT I would let the rescue cut it. And since you are shipping it anyways.....i would go online and buy it. 8 yards are in the bolts.

Another option for a good gift is towels! Go to the thrift store and buy whatever cheap bedding you can find. Trust me those of us in rescue are NOT picky! As long as its clean i can find a use for everything! (sheets cover cages to prevent illness from spreading around, comforters cover my car seats and give a senior dog a place to lay its head, towels are bedding or drying cloths, wash cloths are typically used for washing dirty faces or bleaching crates.)

I also saw that they have $2.95 shipping for a new account and you can add a code that is on the front page for 10% off

So for around $50 you could order 2 bolts of fleece.
