Where is an affordable golf course during the week of Tday that isn't on site, but isn't too far away either?

Need to rent golf clubs and one 18 hole round for 4 adults. We are going as a group of 10 and 4 want to golf and 6 will spend another day at the parks : )

Any suggestions? (keep in mind affordability)

Jenn

The Orange County National is supposed to be one of the best (and best value) courses in the area. My brother is big into golf and he's played at some impressive (and expensive) courses, but the OCN is one of his favourites.

Hi...I play a lot of golf in the area and work part time at one of the "expensive"courses...

When are you coming to town will have a lot to do with cost.
There are some great discount sites that offer Florida golf, but they offer great rates up to 10 days ahead. If I know about when you are traveling I can give you some more specific info.

Also would help to know if your golfers are "low" or "high" handicappers. Some of the courses are really tougher than others and If they want a fun easy course or a tough challenging course will also be a bit of a factor...

FYI Orange County is very nice. Might be a little pricey depending on the time of year and time of day you want to play.

Hi Ted,
I would be interested in some course pricing. I have family going (3 Avid golfers) in October 2005 (16-20th). I would think they would want a mid to high level course.

They will also visit Vero Beach on the 20th to 22nd so if you have any suggestions for courses there that would be great. They are on a budget, and don't want to exceed $50 each.

Thanks
Lifer

Hi Lifer,

glad to try and help.
Two major options for some good golf:
1. go to discount sites where you purchase golf about a 2-10 days ahead. This means giving your credit card and trusting the internet.

site one:
https://specials.ezlinks.com/Specia...selState=FL&submit=Find+EZLinks+Special+Rates
good courses here are Hawk's Landing, Grand Pines, and Ritz Carlton

site two:
http://golf407.com/areacode.asp?SD=41F570BB-3965-4F59-A1DD-08137B3DDD6C&TM=1144
good courses Mystic Dunes Harmony (long drive) Grand Pines and Hawks Landing.

follow directions as to how to sign up and it works really slick.

Plan B...Find local coupons in the discount books or Orlando paper and look for afternoon specials at local courses.

Sorry not familiar with Vero Beach

Let me know if more questions...always happy to help...

I was hoping to plan last minute, but not sure how possible it is. We are going Nov 19-26th (I know prime time Thanksgiving week!) and would probably need one of the easier golf courses. From what I understand (I'm not playing just coordianting the others) 1 person plays a lot, 1 ocassionally and the others have only done it a few times. My brother in law is a manager of a golf course in England so whenever the rest of the family goes it's free.

We are staying at Cypress Pointe Grandvillas so was hoping for something closeby. Don't care if they golf morning, afternoon or night, just the cheapest since I figure the weather/temp will be agreeable at any time. Am flexible about which day although could make a ressie if it's cheaper. I'll have a look at the links. Thanks!

you may also want to check out Falcon's Fire golf course. It is VERY accessible to Disney property, just off the Osceola Parkway in Kissimmee. I believe it is a public golf course and the prices are reasonable.

My dh takes a 1/2 day from work and golfs the afternoon away there every so often.

have fun!

Thanks Tednvon, family of 11 are traveling down in October and I know the guys would love to golf at least once while we are down, I saved the links you provided so they can book tee times before we leave PA. Thanks again.

Hi El, sounds like a good plan.

Jennifer,
Looks like your group has a lot of beginners. Courses right around Disney are the most expensive. I don't think golfing around Thanksgiving will be a extra crowded as most people are there for the parks.

Any golf that will be under $50 will require a bit of a drive. Falcon's Fire mentioned above is very nice and very convenient, but is probably in 70 to 90 dollar range.

For your group, Lake Orlando on the golf 407 site might be a good choice. In November the price will go up a bit, but the real price hike is from Jan 1 till April 1st. The course I work during our 3 months in Disney area is Mystic Dunes and they are $170.00 per person in January.
Other Option is to check coupons each day. If you can play the Legends or King's Ridge just north on HWY 27 off 192 these are two nice courses that have coupons in the local coupon books. From grand Cypress villas these two will be about a 30 minute drive tops. Lake Orlando about 20 minutes.

Falcon's Fire would be about 10-15 minutes via the Osceola Parkway.

Good Luck and let me know if any other questions....Grandpa Ted

One secret we found out last trip is that if you get a tee time after 3 pm, the fee drops from $100 to $30 to golf at Disney - including cart & all! (I think at noon it's $50 - we were cheaper. LOL) My husband & son had a blast golfing in the late afternoon -

Hi...I play a lot of golf in the area and work part time at one of the "expensive"courses

What Disney course would you recommend for a 14 yo ds who loves golf and plays alot and a 50 yo dh who plays very infrequently - mostly to get out to do stuff w/ son.?

We were pretty clueless on what to choose down there - other than we went for the $30 rates. LOL

btw - I went to Univ. of Iowa!! I haven't been back to Iowa City in YEARS but it's a great town!! (can't say I miss the winters, though! LOL)

thanks for the info welovewdw, we will check out the after 3pm specials when we are down in October.

I had no idea golf was so expensive!

We will definitely try for one of the cheaper times since they are flexible with the days/times.

Hello to an old Hawkeye!!!
I just retired from the faculty at the hospital...Love Disney...spouse and I now spend 3 months just south Disney, get our Florida resident passes and hit the parks 2-3 days a week.

For just a fun inexpensive round for two novices I would recommend the Disney walking course that is 9 holes. It is short, simple and fun. It is called Oak Trail

If you want an 18 hole Disney course and PM rates are good, try Lake Buena Vista. It does not have the reputation of the other courses but is shorter and very pretty.

FYI, if you want a fun par three for a great price there is one that is lighted at Orange Lake Condos. It is about a mile west of Disney on 192 on the right as you are going west. Can't miss it, it is HUGE.

Go HAWKEYES!!!

Ted

Thanks Ted!!! I printed off the advice and we will definitely check out the courses you recommended!

I was at Iowa when Lute Olsen and Hayden Fry were coaches (see how long ago it was?? LOL) Still a huge Hawkeye fan here. But I live in a state where most folks can't even locate Iowa on a map ("it's one of the square states, right??")

I live at Legends, and often there are managers specials if you call. Legends is about 12 miles north of the intersection of 27 and 192. nice course, a bit hilly if you like that.
