Post your suggestions here. :)

Looking for things that are day trips (ie. within 2.5 hours driving distance from Boston (I'm north of Boston) and cost under $20 a person to do.

If dogs are allowed that would be terrific too.

So far we have :

The Lost River in NH ; Adults... $9.50 : Kids...4-12... $6.50 (under 4 free) ; No Dogs Allowed.

Scenic Conway Railroad NH ....prices vary but some are $18 per adult; Dogs are allowed in coach cars

Milford NH Drive In.....$18 per car for a double feature; Dogs allowed.

Anyone else have anything?

Thanks!
Sheri

I'm not sure I can help you, Esmeralda, but maybe you can help me. I've asked DH to take a day off this week to go see the Mickey statues in Boston. I know there's one at Fanueil Hall, I know 7 statues are out for repair, but I don't know where the others are. Do you know where I can get this info?

Oh, just had a thought. When our kids were little, Concord, MA, was a great day trip. Don't know the price of admission to some of the stuff (it's been a long time since we did this!), but the Minute Man Bridge is free, a great place for kids to stretch their legs, and you may even be able to bring the dog!

Head up to Freeport, Maine; I haven't been in years, but I think it was about 2- 2.5 hours away. Do some shopping, stop at LL Bean, they have lots of dog stuff.

Or try Gloucester/Rockport, have some lobster.

You didn't say where North of Boston you live, but try Salem, MA. The harbor area is very nice. It's not too far either.

I'm going to be at the White Mtns during the DNC! Anyway, I think Rockport/Gloucester is a good idea. What about Newburyport? There's also the beach (Hampton?) I'm not sure if dogs are allowed this time of year though. There's Old Orchard Beach and York Beach in southern Maine. There's Kittery (which is closer than Freeport and has a Ben & Jerry's ice cream stand. ;) )

The Lost River is a great choice! I haven't been there in years. I got claustrophobic in one of the caves. I think it was called The Lemon Squeeze or something. I thought I was going die. Hey, how far is Kancamangus hwy from you? The Rocky Gorge might be a good choice.

Have fun!!!

Any beach north or south of Boston.

Go to the Harbor Islands in Boston.

Head to New Bedford and take the ferry to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket (easier than driving to the Cape for the ferry and there is actually parking there).

Go to Fort Adams State Park in Newport.

The Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield...kick around Northhampton while you're at it.

Plimouth Plantation or Old Sturbridge Village...both great places to explore.

Hike the Blue Hill in Canton and swim at Houghton's Pond.

Go to World's End in Hingham for a picnic and walk along the ocean.

Take a boat from Boston to P-town

Go on a whale watch.

Awesome suggestions everyone!

Thanks!

Dan - Chicago I wish!!

MinnieMe2 - The statues are around Fanueil Hall and there are several at the entrance of the New England Aquarium.

I saw a lot less statues the other day when I was over at Faneuil Hall though. :( I hope they are okay.

Still worth taking a trip! Just don't forget the ones at the Aquairum. The purple and white angel Mickey that Annette Funicello did is my favorite. That one is over at the Aquarium. :)

aprincessmom - I had comepletly forgotten about World's End. I grew up in Weymouth and used to take picnics there with my family growing up. :)

gallaj0- Salem is one of our favorites. We visit there often and are very fond of the harbor. I think Newburyport or Gloucester might be good for the DNC week . We have not been there in a while. :)

Thanks all!

Remember that the NASCAR Races are the same weekend so heading that direction in NH could be crowded.

Yikes! What part of NH will they be held in.

(sorry - I'm clueless about Nascar)

The races are in the Louden/Concord area of NH....Traffic usually backed up by at least an hour...I would definatley avoid...As for dogs you could always drive up to Old Orcard Beach in Maine. About 2 hrs from Boston and plenty of stuff to do. Really good beach food too!

BTW...I have to come into Boston the weekend for the Sox Yankees games...how much of a nightmare will that be!

How about a tour of Newport (cliffwalk, i think there is a place called the Brick Marketplace if its still there), Tour Narragansett, Maybe even go to Mystic Ct.

I was at Faneuil Hall the weekend before last, and there were not any Mickey's left there. I don't know if any are back yet. I don't know if there are any at the Aquarium. Just figured I'd let you know. You may want to try to call before heading over there.

Esmarelda-
can't u just go to the library, make a pitcher of lemonade
and work on your tan? No need to turn on the telly-no
need to read a paper-order some DVD's on the internet
and DIS. Have a great week. I see the convention is doing
it's job of contributing to the economy by inspiring flight as
well as bringing in delegates and sightseers! LOL
