I figured I would throw it out there see if it helps anybody else out, we are going to fly into tampa for 138 round trip next month for a family visit close to the castle and 149 for an april 2016 dream cruise orlando was 350 next month and next april in orlando was 440 it is an extra hour drive to port Canaveral and about 75 minutes to the mouse for my family the price difference is worth it.

You might also check flying to DAB and MLB.

I would do it in a heartbeat!!! Actually we have done it!!! Tampa to the port is an easy drive. That is a whole lot of money to save for a bit of extra driving. Thanks for posting.

You need to look at it this way... Is the extra time you spend worth $350 - $138 = $212 or $440 - $149 = $291 times the number of travelers. It certainly sounds worth it to me. Tampa is a nice airport and the drive to WDW or the Port is an easy one.

I live about 14 miles west of the Tampa airport. The drive isn't bad at all but if you haven't been here lately, please be advised that there is MAJOR construction on I-275 both north and south (south bound is worse). If you are coming in the same day as your cruise, you might want to add an additional 30 to that drive time to allow for traffic. Especially if it's during the week and anywhere near rush hour. On the way back the traffic will be worse. The construction south to the airport can delay you at least an extra 30 min. Especially as I-4 merges to I-275. Keep that in mind when adjusting for a time to catch a flight. This construction is proposed to continue through spring of 2017 so it isn't ending anytime soon. It's signed well and managed well but it does cause extra congestion.

I live close to Tampa. It's a much nicer airport than MCO. Super easy drive from the airport too, other than all of the construction! If you're flying/driving any time during normal work traffic take that into consideration also.

We've done this as well on a WDW trip and found the drive to be painless. It always make sense to check surrounding airports - both at your home and your destination. For us, it's an issue of using FF miles. It may not be possible (or the miles required too great) to use them at one particular airport, while another close by works great.

Since this is a money-based decision, make SURE of your rental car prices before booking. Don't assume, then hope they come down if the rates are high.
