Chattanooga TN

We are headed to Chattanooga next weekend so dh and dd can see a concert. We are planning on going to the aquarium on Sunday, is the best deal on tickets online or could we pick up coupons somewhere to get them cheaper.

We are also wanting to picnic somewhere either around Nickajack Lake or Lookout Mountain. We aren't wanting to go to Ruby Falls (dd is terrified of caves) or Rock City but not sure of any other places that we could picnic and see a great view.

If you know of any other cheap/free things in the area that would be great too, we are staying at the Choo Choo Hotel.

We went earlier this year just for a one night trip from my Dads house. We took the incline railroad to lookout mountain and that was really a nice view up there. Once there if you walked a few blocks down there was a civil war battlefield park. Also very nice.

Across the river from the Aquarium is Coolidge Park. You can get there by walking across the pedestrian bridge or driving. The park is nice with an inside carousel that has all kinds of animals, not just horses. There are lots of picnic tables at the park with great views of the river and downtown Chattanooga. But if you want a view from the mountain, then Lookout Mountain is probably your best bet. You can either drive to the top or take the incline railway. I don't really remember driving directions. I live about 2 hours away from Chattanooga and it has been a couple of years since we visited. I do remember that Rock City is really fun and has the best views. You really can see 7 states on a clear day.
I would recommend that you try to eat at Sticky Fingers. It is near the Aquarium in downtown Chattanooga. They have the best barbeque!

Hi, I'm originally from Chattanooga!!! I think this is a great suggestion. OP, I believe the Tennessee is rated one of the best aquariums in the country.

We live in Chattanooga and find Cloudland Canyon to be great for a picnic and views. Probably about 30 minutes from downtown atop Lookout Mtn in Trenton.

We went to Chattanooga last year and had a good time. The aquarium is easily the best I've ever been to -- I liked it much better than the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.

We ate at Cheeburger Cheeburger near the aquarium and that was yummy. Another DIS-er suggested the City Diner which is in the downtown area, connected to the Days Inn. The DIS-er said it looked a little sketchy from the outside, but the food portions were huge and food was delicious. I am happy to report the DIS-er was right on all counts! We had a great meal -- way more than we could eat -- and shared a HUGE piece of chocolate cake that was delicious.

We did the Incline Railway and walked to the civil war park and that was very interesting. We also did Rock City and Ruby Falls and enjoyed those. There's a nice children's museum downtown that we went to after lunch after the aquarium and spent several enjoyable hours.

I think the civil war park atop Lookout Mtn is closed because of the govt shutdown. The other attractions are open.
