At first I felt some panic at the thought of someone trying to "break into" my account! But, then, I noticed some odd things so I read the email again and these are tell tale signs of scam:

OF COURSE there was a link for me to sign into "my account"!!

First of all, the wording (which I bolded above) seemed unusual.

There was an actual Chase logo in the top corner of the email. Then, there was a picture of a Chase credit card in the email....which I have a Disney Visa, not an actual Chase card.....so, I thought that was odd. :scratchin

They asked me to sign in with my social security number.....which I thought was odd because there is no reference to my social security number on any of the credit cards that I pay online....believe me, I've checked!

Then, I went back up to the top of the email and there it was: the email came FROM "services@Chase.com" and was addressed TO "<undisclosed-recipients@>, <@>".....certainly not the way a big company like Chase would send out an email!

I have more than one email account. I went to my Chase secure log in site and logged in. I checked to see which email account I have give to Chase and, sure enough, it was not that email account. I am now going to call Chase and confirm there is not a problem with my account.....

IF YOU GET AN EMAIL SIMILAR TO THIS, READ IT A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE TAKING ANY ACTION! LOOK FOR THE CLUES AND THEN CHECK WITH CHASE DIRECTLY!

Let's use our credit safely out there, everybody! :lovestruc

ETA: The Chase representative stated they are requesting anyone receiving these emails forward them to abuse@chase.com. I asked his permission to pass this info on to everyone here and he said they would welcome that as they are trying to get the word out to stop these scam emails!

DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS!!!!

I will come back with more details.

I got that very one, called Chase and they are working on it. It is a fake.

I got the same one, I get ones like that from paypal and amazon as well. No way am I clicking on any of them!

This is a phishing scam. I recommend forwarding the email to Chase so they can investigate. These come to my email almost daily from Chase, Wachovia, PayPal, eBay, Bank of America, etc. If you mouse/hover over the link, it'll display at the bottom of your window where it's going to and it's never Chase or Wachovia or whatever. Some of these look like good forgeries with the company logos and all. Never reply to them and never click the links.

One way to combat these is to go to the actual company website and look up "email fraud". They usually have an address you can forward the email to so they can investigate.

I've gotten that from 3 different banks - and I don't have accounts at any of them.

We got it this week at work. I googled the name of the notice and found it is a scam.

Denae

I got the same one 2 times...That was the first indicator something was up...and the 2nd was that they were sent to my work email...not my personal email that chase has...

I received one from Bank of America yesterday and I don't have an account with them.

If you did not provide any info, you can just delete the email.

If you did provide personal info, you may need to close your account and reopen with new account numbers. If you gave out your user ID and password, you may also need to call the Internet Service Center so they can immediately block online access and get a new User ID and pasword set up. Chase.Com customers call 877/242-7372. BankOne.com customers, call 800/482-3675.

If you provided your SS#, call the Social Security Fraud Hotline at 800/269-0271; you should also contact one of the major three credit bureaus to place a fraud alert.

It's called phishing...it leads you to a website that "looks" like your bank site...I get these all the time and I never respond and I have never had my account suspended

I also forward the email to my bank so they can investigate

OMG..something like this happened to me yesterday!

I just paid off my Chase CC, balance was several thousand dollars, and I got an email saying that due to the large transaction that took place on my account, they needed me to update my info.

LINK HERE

I was stupid enough to click on it! I happened to be talking to my mother on the phone at the time, and she asked what I was doing. I was entering all my information :sad2: , and she's screamed...don't hit the send button!

I deleted it, and called Chase. Yep..it was a scam!

Can't believe how stupid I am! It sounded logical to me, so I believed it. It really looked legitamate too! But then again..how would it look?? :sad2:

I get them from Chase, Paypal and Ebay. I don't have an account with any of them, but I do forward them to spoof or abuse. Sadly there are people that do fall for these scams.

My sisters friend did the other day...completed the form..then realized what she did...I guess I just don't trust anyone!

I get them from eBay and paypal all the time. I don't even have an ebay account. I always foward them to spoof or abuse.

Another hint I learned is that Paypal and eBay will put your username in the email, not your real name. The best way to stay safe is to NEVER click on the links. Go directly to the official website and sign in there. If there really is a problem you will find out that way.

I received on this morning and I don't even have any kind of account with Chase. I forwarded it to the Chase abuse dept. then deleted it.

I got the same one. I entered all my info but didn't hit the send button. This may sound so stupid, but can they see it even if you don't send it. It like that skyware stuff...

Am I safe???
