At first I felt some panic at the thought of someone trying to "break into" my account! But, then, I noticed some odd things so I read the email again and these are tell tale signs of scam:
OF COURSE there was a link for me to sign into "my account"!!
First of all, the wording (which I bolded above) seemed unusual.
There was an actual Chase logo in the top corner of the email. Then, there was a picture of a Chase credit card in the email....which I have a Disney Visa, not an actual Chase card.....so, I thought that was odd.
They asked me to sign in with my social security number.....which I thought was odd because there is no reference to my social security number on any of the credit cards that I pay online....believe me, I've checked!
Then, I went back up to the top of the email and there it was: the email came FROM "services@Chase.com" and was addressed TO "<undisclosed-recipients@>, <@>".....certainly not the way a big company like Chase would send out an email!
I have more than one email account. I went to my Chase secure log in site and logged in. I checked to see which email account I have give to Chase and, sure enough, it was not that email account. I am now going to call Chase and confirm there is not a problem with my account.....
IF YOU GET AN EMAIL SIMILAR TO THIS, READ IT A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE TAKING ANY ACTION! LOOK FOR THE CLUES AND THEN CHECK WITH CHASE DIRECTLY!
Let's use our credit safely out there, everybody!
ETA: The Chase representative stated they are requesting anyone receiving these emails forward them to abuse@chase.com. I asked his permission to pass this info on to everyone here and he said they would welcome that as they are trying to get the word out to stop these scam emails!
