If I already have the Sapphire card with 70,000 points and I open up the SW Premier card for 50,000 points..then transfer my Sapphire points, would that qualify me for companion pass? I couldn't find anything about transferred points not qualifying! Thanks

Points transferred into Rapid Rewards from the Chase Sapphire Ultimate Rewards program do not qualify for A-list, nor do they qualify for companion pass status.

There are ways to transfer some points into a SWA acct and they will count towards CP(not sure about a-list also) that involves transferring from CSP- a hotel program and over to SWA- but you lose a percentage of points doing this, so not always a good plan financially- million miles secrets has a lot of helpful info on doing this(i've done it in the past for the CP)

transfers do apply for companion pass, but you have to hit the 100,000 mark in a year to qualify.

they do not count towards A list. that is based on paid miles.

I'm sorry, i was meaning the companion pass but typed a-list. So, the points would transfer over? That would be great because that puts me at the point lvl needed. I have 70,000 right now on my Sapphire, 8800 on my SW regular card and then the premier would give me the 50,000.

That is good to know. We hav had SW premier for years but just opened sapphire with the bonus points. We may be able to hit the 110k for a companion pass then.

This should be correct, you can transfer to a hotel and then to southwest and it should earn towards the companion pass.
this article suggest marriott transfers 5:1 below 30k points, 3:1 above 30k.
Hyatt is 2.5:1.

@ 70k miles... would net you 28k southwest points(via Hyatt). Its up to you if thats valuable to you or not...

No, that is absolutely not true with regards to Chase Ultimate Rewards. I know that it works for Diners Club, but not Chase.

Million.Miles.Secrets. great site with lots of info on transfers and how to do it.
*You can transfer CSP UR points into SWA RR*, but you have to do it through another hotel program,as a pp noted above, (was it Hyatt?) that gives the transfer ratio..... you WILL lose points in doing so,like 3:1 ratio, and only you can decide if it makes sense to use your points that way.
They do count towards CP when doing it properly (transferring thru another program) but it is wise to research what you plan to do before trying it. (I've done it in the past multiple times-had the SWA CP for 6 years running now)
Points are usually a set value in different programs (read points blogs for details) and it can be a wise,or unwise use of points, based on actual value, your travel plans, etc.

Not all transfers apply toward CP,and you have to hit 110,000 points *within* ONE calendar year to get there. Read above, proceed with caution. A straight UR-SWA transfer will not get you CP qualifying points.

those 70k CSP points(ultimate rewards) MUST transfer thru a hotel program THEN into SWA to count for the pass- You will not be able to transfer 70k into SWA-it will be cut by about a third-you are looking to get a TOTAL of at least 110,000 QUALIFYING points into your acct within your 'spend' year

Thanks everyone! I'm not sure losing the points would be our best option..seems like you lose a lot. I'll need to do my math and see.

I think the prevailing strategy is to sign up for 2 different SW cards to get the 50k bonus on each. Then if you're only a few thousand pts short, it makes more sense to transfer a limited # of points this way to get from 104k to 110k.
