Chase getting rid of Disney debit card

Remember, it's a *debit* card, so it's not going to be as good as a CC where they are hoping we'll pay interest. And it's Disney specific, with a cute design on the front etc etc, and getting disney rewards dollars has a high value, so I feel it's only to be expected that the earnings would be slower.

It's why you have to make sure it meets your needs before signing up...

Yes, I know the Chase Debit card is a Debit card. The Debit card I have now gives better rewards.

It appears this may be for all Chase debit card reward programs - not just Disney. (Can't post links but on "mybanktracker" there was an article on 11/22/10 about the new banking regulations and how Chase will be discontinuing their rewards programs. The article is "Chase Debit Card Rewards to End February 2011"

I'm confused. Is this for the Chase Visa or is there another card?

Chase debit card (with visa logo).

livndisney, in my post, I did mention the other reasons why it's a lower benefit...specifically for Disney, etc etc... Those things have value to some people. Especially since I could never get the Chase reps (to give them credit, they were *brand new* to Chase after the takeover) to explain WHERE I could use the rewards on their other reward debit cards...

We just changed our debit yesterday from the UR to the Disney rewards because there is no fee for additional cards, as with the UR you have to pay 25 per card per year.. With the Disney Rewards debit you earn the same amount of rewards per dollar, yet additional cards are free up to four. Welp glad well be grandfathered in :lovestruc

UR gives you .80% back. The Disney card gives you .5%

Since you completely missed by point, I will just add-where you can use the "benefits" is listed right on the website.

I don't think it matters whether you have a UR or a DR debit visa - Chase is going to be doing away with ALL of them (see my post above). Which makes me sad because we don't do credit cards and I enjoyed the rewards we got on all 4 of our Chase checking accounts :(

I planned on getting rid of my UR card as soon as my Disney Visa comes anyway, so I'm not too sad. Working in a bank it also doesn't surprise me that banks are doing away with debit card rewards programs.

This is a real bummer. We've had the debit since they started offering it, and even though we don't earn as much as with the CC, debit just works better for us. I wonder what we'll do now...

Why do you say that?

Because I'm tired of banking with the "Too Big To Fail" banks. And there are much better rewards programs out there (Discover, AMEX Blue, rewards credit cards from credit unions, etc.)

Wish Disney would partner with a Credit Union. Chase is about to become a distant memory.

They already have -- it's just not your own credit union (the one I linked-up is only for Cast Members/Employees of the Walt Disney Company).

I don't foresee your wish coming true, as credit unions are, by and large, local/regional operations serving a niche group of members, or a local community.

My question to everyone is if Disney and Chase were to indeed break-up, does that mean WDW & DL will revert to the non-branded/surcharging ATMs they had during the 90's (between the Bank of America and Chase partnerships)? Sure hope not!

Somebody has to pay for these rewards. It's business deal - it may even count that Disney uses Chase for business funds.

Prior to the Chase (and their predecessor, Bank One) partnership that came-around in the late 90's, Bank of America (in it's former form when it was a west coast-only bank) was their official bank in CA for generations dating-back to Walt Disney making his movie "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (BofA financed Disney's early films, and the construction of Disneyland). So, yes, it's way more than just Mickey on a credit card.

I haven't heard about the rewards programs ending for any of the cards. I did get notice that unless you direct deposit $500+/mth into your checking acct you'll have to do 5 pin transactions per month to keep the account free of fees.

Is it 5 pin transactions or just 5 purchases? I just got nailed $6.00 for my last statement period because I only had 3 transactions. This isn't my main account and I just forgot to use it.

EDITED TO ADD:
From my statement-
Did you know your monthly service fee is waived when you have a direct deposit OR at least 5 debit card purchases each
statement period?

Also....pin transactions are not eligible towards rewards. Guess I need to call chase to confirm.

It's for the debit card.

And my Disney CC came today! Now I can get rid of my UR card, save $25 a year, and earn more rewards.

it's DD or 5 pin transactions. Starting in Feb it will be $500 DD or 5 pin transactions.

Yeah, I'm aware of Partners (soon to be a member there, too) There are many nationwide credit unions open to everyone. But I was referring to Disney offering Disney Dollars a la the Chase relationship.

And those 5 PIN transactions then eliminate those purchases from the disney rewards...

That's why we're diverting the money from our credit union, to do a direct deposit into Chase.

Could always just buy a pack of gum once a week via PIN transaction. :)
