My dd will turn sixteen next year and I am trying to start early to be budget minded. I would love to get her a charm bracelet and then I can buy the bracelet/charms a little at a time so that it will be complete by her birthday. Any idea on the best/not too expensive charm bracelet and charms? Do they make Disney ones that are slide on like Pandora? Just trying to get a feel budget wise. Thanks!

I have a Padora charm bracelet and they are expensive. Needless to say, I only have a few charms on it. lol The cheapest are the plain silver charms and they start at $25.
I'm not sure about the quality of the bracelet, however Kohls has their own brand and they're not too expensive.
I remember reading on this board that Chamilla (sp?) has Disney charms. I beleive they're sold at certain jewelery stores. I know that most of the charms will all work together and you shouldn't have a problem putting a Kohls charm on a Pandora bracelet, etc.

I just got an email from my local Pandora retailer and they are giving away a free barrel clasp bracelet with he purchase of $100 Sept 8 through 11. This is a Nationwide Pandora promo. I don't know what your budget is, but the retail price of the bracelet alone is $65.

I got my dd one of the charms from Kohls, (she wears it on her braided leather Pandora necklace, so they do fit over the Pandora end) Its cute but if you want quality and something that is going to last I wouldn't start your dd on one of those. They are good filler charms IMO, but I would not get them to commemorate a special occasion.

Kay Jeweler's also has their own charm bracelet line.

If she is anything like my daughter, she will like a Juicy Couture charm bracelet. They have been seen lately at Marshall's and TJ MAxx for not bad prices along with quite a few charms.

I'm asking for a trollbeads bracelet for Christmas- it's like pandora, but all the beads fit on it (Chamilia, Pandora, and of course, Trollbeads). My sister works at a store that sells the different bracelets, and one of her co-workers told me the trollbeads was one of the best ones for that reason.

The store that I'm buying from said that they have a special promotion this year where you buy the clasp, and get the bracelet free. Not sure if that's all bracelets or not.

Chamilia is the brand that sells Disney charms- a lot of them are really cute, too!

DH bought me a Pandora bracelet with a couple of charms (sterling silver bracelet and 7 charms and it was about $500) for our anniversary. We will be adding to it over time. Two of the "charms" are actually clasps that are attached to the threads to hold the few charms I do have in place on the front of the bracelet. By the time we are done, it will be over $2000 easy, and that is just for sterling. The gold ones are hundreds of dollars.

I love it, but I am so paranoid about wearing it!

Good luck and enjoy. You might want to do some internet research about interchanging the charms. Some people have had issues with the threads.

Thanks so much! :goodvibes I am going to check into all of the suggestions. Is there a specific name to those type of charms? Are they just slide on charms or called something else? I just tend to keep calling them pandora charms because those are the type that I am looking for.

I have a Chamilia Charm Bracelet that I received as a gift. Most stores that sell Chamilia have the Disney charms. I just bought one for my neice this past weekend. Each year I buy a bead in Disney at the Jewelry store on Main Street. I think that is the best Jewelry Store in all DW.

Plus Pandora and Chamilia bracelets are the big thing right now, so you can't go wrong with either one.

Here's the place where I get my Chamilia charms. Every few months they run a promo. I love these charms and I'm in my 30's. My DD has the Miss Chamilia we got for her 7th b-day. It has smaller charms and they have a few Disney ones too.

I've found it really handy because we don't buy as much "junk" on vacation now. She and I just go pick out a bead that reminds us of our trip.
:)

I got the email but maybe it's a bit different regionally. The one I received is running Sept. 8-18 and you get the free barrel clasp bracelet with the purchase of $75.

OP: If you're interested in a pandora bracelet, just call your local pandora store on Sept 8 and see what promo they are running :)

Darn, I wish I lived where you do!

I don't have one, but from what I have read you would void the warranty on a Pandora bracelet if you put any charm other than a Pandora charm on it. So even if the Chamilia charms fit the Pandora bracelet, if the bracelet is damaged in any way (even if it was not caused by the Chamilia charm) the warranty is void. Not sure if the other companies out there have similar warranty voids but just something to think about since Pandora bracelets are very pricey!

My neice has a Chamilia bracelet (the ones with the Disney charms). The large double mickey and minnie head was stuck and the end of the bracelet split. I took the bracelet to the store where it was purchased. The owner was able to get the charm off and replaced the bracelet with a new one. The owner looked at the bracelet before she helped me and said that if I had any other charm on the bracelet other than Chamilia the warranty would be voided.

I have a Chamilia bracelet that I got during a "buy 3 beads and get the bracelet free" promo. All of my other beads have come from either Kohl's or QVC.

I think Macy's also recently came out with their own line of beads to fit these bracelets - you might want to check that out, too.

Thanks for the info! Just called my local jewelry store on LI and it is with a 100.00 purchase.
I am thinking of getting one, but how is the "free" one? Is it nice/well made or is it very thin and cheap looking?

I'm loving my Fossil charm bracelet. The charms have a lot of personality and might be more age appropriate for a 16 yr old than the Pandora type bracelets.

I have other brand charms on my Pandora bracelet and nothing has happened to it. I think they just say that to try to convince you not to buy other charms. How would they really ever know what charms you had on the bracelet?

The "free" bracelet is the regular barrel clasp bracelet that costs $65 - $75 usually. My DH did this deal last spring before Mother's Day for me because my first bracelet was full and I wanted second one. And it is the same bracelet as the one we bought, so that's a great deal.

Awesome! I think I may have hubby buy me one with 4 charms. I'll go and buy a 2 charms for my niece and get 1 charm (a really nice one!) for my SIL with a bracelet since she doesn't have one yet. christmas/b-day presents for all... Thanks again, everyone!!!!

Great to know about the warranty details. I love the DIS always know I can come here and get my questions answered and extra info that I didn't even think about. I definitely will check to see on the Pandora promo. Her friend got a charm bracelet for her 16th birthday from Kay's and dd really liked it so good to know there are many different choices.:goodvibes
