What did you think of the movie? What were your favorite parts?

While I hate comparing it to the first film since this wasn't really a re-make, rather a new interpretation of the book, I have to say I really liked the way they did Charlie's house and family this time around. I always have a hard time watching the first 20 minutes of the original movie, as a lot of the parts with Charlie and his family really lag, to me. Especially the "Cheer up Charlie" bit. :sad2:

The Oompa Loompa songs were hilarious, and Johnny Depp was fantastic as Wonka, IMO.

All that said, my favorite part is when Willy goes to Loompa Land. Absolutely hysterical, and completely unexpected!! :rotfl:

I loved the whole thing - from beggining to end! I didn't think any part was slow and I love how thorough they were with explaining the story instead of rushing through it. A masterpiece.

I saw it last night...much better than I anticipated! Very good! The audience in the movie theater was laughing and everyone seemed to enjoy it!

Did anyone laugh at the young Willy Wonka as he leaves home and you see the flags flying beside him?
Anyone? I was the only one laughing when the guard said, "Sorry son, we are closing for the night." I love it when Tim Burton does something like that.

Loved the Oompa Loompa songs, too! The new Oompa Loompa(s) are better. :cool1:

We were cracking up when he left the 'Flags of the World'!! I also loved when he was going back to see his father after all this time and his was the only building left standing. His reaction was great; "maybe we have the wrong one." :rotfl:

Ok! Thank you! I thought I was crazy! The theatre was packed, and I was the only one laughing at that part. My youngest son did not get it, but I thought my dh or dd would!

I have a question...what about the part when they are taking the elevator through the factory and they come upon an oompa loompa in a machine gun type thing. They load it with candy and you get fireworks. Does anyone know exactly what was going on there?

BTW, love the next area of the factory. The admistrative offices, "Hello Doris!"

YES!!! The 'Hello Doris' was soooo funny!!

As for the fireworks part, I took it as the way Charlie described it when Mike Teavee asked about it.

We LOVED the film and I was drug screaming and yelling because I LOVE "Willy Wonka!"
No comparison, the two films stand alone-great! That said, "Hello Doris!" and Willy's trip to Ooompa Loompa land and the Grandparents(funny and darlling) and the musical numbers(OMG! hilarious) and I really loved the candy smile on the mother of the gum chewer!!!!! so funny! The character of Willy Wonka was perfect, Johnny Depp really had fun with it, "little girl" and "you need to stop mumbling, I can't understand a word you're saying" were classic. I really liked Mike TV too. Another thread already mentioned it but at the beginning when Willy stikes the Edward Scissorhands pose, I swear there were scissorhands in the shadow of his figure. Did anyone else see that subliminally? Just my immagination? Great film, I think we'll see it again before it goes to video!

I loved this movie!! I was smiling the whole movie. ( I was lauging too) I loved Willy Wonka's entrance too! All the dolls, song, the dolls catching on fire, then later on the doll infermerary (sp????) and I found the whole movie enjoyable!! :rotfl: I must get the soundtrack! Which has all the oompa loompa songs and the welcome song!! And IMO I thought Johnny Depp made a GREAT Willy Wonka! I really loved the whole movie!

You know what...I did not see the shadow...but I thought, gee...this looks like Edward Scissorhands.

Even if you are not a J.D. fan, have any of you noticed he brings a little of each movie to the next one? In POTC, he says something about raisins (when he is in the cave with the other pirates), that is from Benny and Joon.

Then with this one the scissors, and at the very end, the snow falling on the house, sort of like Edward Scissorhands. And what about that sheep thing?
Pink sheep being sheared. Is that is reference to Ed Wood?
I just about lost it there when he said, "I don't want to talk about that one." Sorry can't remember the line word for word.

I don't know if this will kill the movie or not, but most critics loved it!
I hope no one takes offense to that. If a critic likes a movie, I usually don't.

We may have to see it again just to pick up the little things we missed.

I definitely think it will be one of thise movies we buy and watch over and over to see the different things. I love that. I just really loved the whole movie and I wasn't epecting too. My kids loved it to and were especially glad that the beginning wasn't as dark as the first. It made it more interesting.
The squirrels were a little disturbing to me.I like the golden goose better.

We sat it in IMAX yesterday and it was so great!

I started out in a bad mood yesterday, but that movie had me laughing so hard I was smiling when we left. Even though he was great in Pirates, I never knew JD could be so funny.

I want to see it again - I caught lots of the cool subtle details the first time through but I know I'd grab even more the 2nd and 3rd.

my FAVORITE part was the rock video by the Oompa Loompa when the kid was in the TV - starting with kiss and going through the Beatles and such. I had tears rolling down my face - but I really think I was the only one in the theater laughing so hard!!!

Today at church, I whispered something to DH and he said "you're mumbling - I can't understand a word you're saying" and I nearly died right there on the pew giggling.

I liked the hidden Jack Skellingtons on the candy in the fireplace; I also loved the new doll burn clinic :)

OMG!!!! I loved the Oompa Loompa songs-we came home and went on the internet site-you can listen to almost the whole Augustus Gloop song there. Too funny! JD is so good-I think this was the perfect match between Tim Burton, JD and Roald Dahl's work.

I've got the sugar high now too! We just got back from seeing this and we all LOVED it! DD8 was actually sitting at the edge of her seat. DD 4 was following the Oompa Loompa choreography, dancing in her seat, and DD 11 was trying to look like she wasn't having a great time!

Roald Dahl was a genius.
I'm so glad Tim Burton took this on!
