I posted last week about possibly moving to Orlando. That is still an option, however DH has also just been offered a job in Charleston, SC.

We are trying to decide between the two and have 48 hours to make our final decision :(.

We've never been to Charleston.

Does anyone from here live there or maybe lived there in the past?

How are the schools?

Is it is nice area?

Any negatives to living there?

What area of Charleston would you recommend living in? I've heard Mt. Pleasant is nice.

Thanks!

Teresa

I've never lived there, but I've visited many times. It's about a six-hour or so drive from WDW -- we did that trip last year!

It is a beautiful and truly historic city. Very Southern. It's a big tourist destination and has many wonderful restaurants and shops -- not cheap, however. Besides Charleston, there are a number of luxury islands in the area with PGA golf courses and mansions. It is very hot and humid in the summer and has had its share of hits by major hurricanes in the fall.

Schools don't have a great reputation, but I think that may be improving. One of my oldest friends lived there for a few years and was told by "everyone" to do private school. They didn't and found the public schools to be okay.

Charleston's economy was hit really hard when the naval base closed a few years ago. It seems to have bounced back, but a lot of the jobs are low-paying service jobs in the tourist industry.

Mount Pleasant is on the other side of the river.

I have friends who just moved to Mount Pleasant. They say it's beautiful. Very pretty and historic. Not too far from the beach, but not too close for storms either. I don't know about the schools as their girls are in college.

I did some research on the schools this afternoon and what you stated seems to correspond with what I found. Unfortunately, private schools are out of our price range. Both of our girls are in private now at a cost of only $3000 total. I checked and in SC it would cost us around $8,000 a year! Definitely not within our budget.

Glad to hear it is a beautiful city, I look forward to seeing it!

Thanks,

Teresa

We've lived here since late 1999, and if there's anything I can do to help you- just whistle!!

Or maybe I should say that DH has been here since 3/99 and I've been here since 9/99.

We were living in VA until he was offered a job down here.
