Anyone ever flown into Charleston and than drive to HH? If so how long is the ride? I found airfare to be considerably cheaper flying here than flying into Savannah.

Although we haven't done it yet, we're doing it in November (Thanksgiving). We also found it significantly cheaper to fly into Charleston, so after several times flying to Savannah, we're giving Charleston a try. Hopefully, someone who's already done it can post on their experience though.

It's a good 2 hours plus, likely more if you're arriving at HH on a Sat or Sunday between 11 am and 6 pm. Compared to an hour or so, maybe less from Savannah. It's about as quick, possibly quicker overall, to drive from Jacksonville, FL which may be cheaper still for many situations.

I've done the drive to HHI from Mt Pleasant, SC which is about 15 min from charleston. It took us about 2 hours, so I would figure about that. The main problem is the roads you have to take are not major highways so you could hit stoplights or get stuck behind a slow truck.

I don't think 2 hours is bad though, so if you get a good price, I would try it out.

You may want to consider driving 26West and then 95 south to avoid towns and slow moving traffic. Should be within the 2 hour timeframe. I can be at HHI from Columbia in about that same time frame so Charleston should be faster or about the same.

Normally, it's about the same amount of time from Charleston to HHI, whether you take the scenic route (back roads) or the Interstates. The airport is north of downtown Charleston and has easy access to the Interstates, so that might be a good option, as Ratpack suggested. However, the scenic route really is a great way to get a feel for the Lowcountry, so if you don't mind the possibility of getting stuck behind slow-moving traffic, it's worth taking that route at least one way.
