Charleston SC airlines?

I am pricing plane tickets to see my brother + his family. They are now stationed in Charleston, SC. Tickets from CLE to there are EXPENSIVE (found $400 RT in June...yeah RIGHT!) I want to check lowcost carriers too, but can't find which ones fly there. (I am not so familiar with them to begin with).

So anyone know what are reasonable airlines into/out of Charleston SC? Or is there another airport I should be flying into to go to the Navy Base near there?

I did some poking around and I think the only airlines that fly directly into Charleston are US Airways, United Express, Northwest,Continental and Delta airlines. If you go to http://www.charlestoncvb.com and look for travel then travel scheduless you will get a schedule of all flights in and out of Charleston, right now it just list flights for Feb.

The other nearest big city you might try is Savanah, GA. I don't remember but I don't think it's that far of a drive to Charleston. It maybe that you might have to just pay that much because the airport just isn't that big and June is big travel season for Charleston.

Actually, a lot of people in the area have found that it is cheaper to fly into Myrtle Beach (about a 105 minute to 2 hour drive from Charleston) or into Columbia (about 1.5 hours from Charleston). Independence Air used to fly into Charleston, but after they went under, there haven't been any really good fares for Charleston.

So glad I live close enough to drive to Charleston!

We have the same problem flying out of Charlotte. It's much cheaper to fly out of Greensboro or Columbia to go anywhere than it is to fly out of Charlotte.

geez!! Well, I guess if I am gonna need my brother to drive several hours to come to the airport, I may as well just drive to Charleston SC! I gotta think that since I can get to WDW in about 18 hours (from near Cleveland), Charleston is probably 12-14 hours??
