Hi,
Has anyone stayed at the Charleston Place in South Carolina? Any experiences would be appreciated :).

Thank you.

Mary

Hi Maryisme,

Althought, I haven't been there in a few years, I can tell you it is wonderful. The WOW factor of the hotel lobby alone is equal to the Grand Floridian. Rooms are appointed very nicely. The restuarants in the hotel and the surrounding area are great (try Magnolia's). If you are really into colonial history, it's a great combination. Go and enjoy. Let us know how you liked it.

Hi Sandy,
Thanks for responding. It sure looks wonderful on their website. We're still not sure what we are doing. We may also pay a visit to the Grove Park Inn Resort in North Carolina and The Jefferson in Washington, D.C.

I will be sure to report on one or all--if we go :). Things are up in the air since I've just discovered I'm pregnant.

Thanks again!

Mary

Charleston Place is very nice...the rooms themselves aren't anything terribly special, but the location for downtown Charleston cannot be beat. We live in the area, and my company sometimes puts us up there after holiday parties (which is very nice).

We stayed there one night on points in April 2001; it was part of our HHI vacation. It is a very elegant hotel - the restaurants looked great although we didn't use them as we weren't there that long. It is within walking distance to many restaurants and shops (King Street or something like that) and the battery/historic district - of course walking distance is a relative term depending on just how pregnant you are ;-)

If you just want to stay in the city you wouldn't need a car but I recommend visiting a plantation or two. We chose Middleton which was great; there's also Boone and another that starts with "M", Magnolia? I can't remember. If you go, make sure you take the carriage tour. It was the highlight of our trip.

I don't remember exactly how many points it cost but there were many point levels that corresponded to different types of rooms available. I paid a few more points and we got a nice 1 bedroom corner suite. I highly recommend a trip to Charleston - the weather in April was great.

It is very nice. keep in mind that it is not a beach resort, it is more of a downtown type hotel. The grove park in is very nice too. Both of these hotels are old and famous and have had alot of famous people stay in them. They can also be very crowded with not guest tourist. They come in by the bus loads by tour groups. they take up the rest. ressies and spa ressies. This is esp. true for the grove park inn around holiday times. Though the lobby and spas and services are wonderful at these hotels, the rooms are very bland and simple. the cash rate is crazy for these hotels. it makes using points to stay a whole lot better. we stay at these two hotels when we have not used our points and need to use them before the dedline. As far as hotel rooms in Asheville, the Doubletree by the Biltmore, rooms are alot nicer than the Grove Park Inn. For only around $100 per night. they just don't have the service and spa and room service that the GPI has. The spa and room service at GPI is incredible.
