Has anyone flown into Charleston, SC when going to HHI? If so, how long did it take you after you left the airport? And how easy/hard is the airport to get around. I find Savannah to be real easy to get around/in/out/direct drive to HHI, but it looks like Charleston might be cheaper next time. Any experiences?

I have used Charleston two times and Savanah four times. It's about a three hour drive from CHS to Hilton Head vs about 45 minutes to SAV. I would recommend SAV unless you want to sight see at Charleton. The downtown market at Charleston is really nice. Also the reed baskets that are for sale by maker north of Charleston in Mount Pleasant are really worth the drive. When considering to airfare cost, check out the rental car cost too. We like to fly into Savanah the day before Hilton Head and spend the night downtown. Really cool. Try the President's Quarters bed and breakfast on Presindent's street. Their breakfast was wonderful. Our next rip to Hilton Head? April 2008 Jerry

I live outside of Charleston and it should only take about 2 hours to get to HHI. Charleston is really nice if you do want to sight see!

If you do use CHS, make sure you allow an extra night or two to see Charleston -- it's worth it! We prefer the "back roads" way between Chareston and HH -- only two lanes in places and can definitely be a challenge if you're behind a slowpoke, but you get a great "feel" for the non-commercial part of the lowcountry!!

The plantations, Market Street area, great seafood, all well worth it! But we personally think that a "day trip" there is trying to pack waaaay too much into one day.

You may remember that DD goes to College of Charleston (is actually graduating on Mother's Day! YIKES!! ), so we're fairly familiar with the area. Let me know if you have any questions!

During the summer I make the Chas-HH drive weekly. It's not a bad drive at all, about 2 hours, definitely makes you feel like you're in the Lowcountry! There are a couple of different routes to take, especially depending on the time of day (and day of the week). LMK if you have any questions.

Oh, yeah-I'd forgotten until you reminded me. Graduating in May? Isn't that a cause for celebration-like maybe a trip to HHI?
