Charity Chase Half Marathon, or the train wreck that almost was

Wendy: Great report and great story-telling! I can visualize everything so clearly and it is hysterical! I was actually relieved to learn that the problem you had was with the course itself and not with your new diet as you alluded to in the beginning. I was thinking, oh no, this sounds like it might be an embarassing situation type thingy. :scared1: I hope it was a really nice medal for all your trouble! At least you won't have to ever do it again. Scratch that one off your list for good. :thumbsup2

The only problem I link to diet was that I bonked so early. I guess you really DO need carbs. Duh! :confused3

And about that scratching it off the list thing.... I'm actually thinking that when I do this race next year, I'm going to be so much better prepared... :rotfl:

Awesome report, Wendy! Love those references to the train warnings...they had me giggling through the whole report. Way to go and persevere! It sounds like the volunteers were awesome.

Thanks, Tracey. I could see the whole train wreck thing playing out in my mind... It was a lot of fun, even though I did make a lot of mistakes! But next year...

Wendy - lol. I am still hearing teh warning bells in my head. Glad you coudl stay in good humor after all of that! Great job on sticking with it and brigning ti home! What a huge victory!

Brian - Just had to say hi! :goodvibes Glad to hear you are still running! Any WDW races scheduled?

Great, fun RR. I love your sense of humor. I especially like that your train left the station, regardless of how it got to its destination. (And I'm glad it wasn't a train wreck.) What a great metaphor for your suggestion to train, train, train.

Just a couple of things:
  • A couple of jalapenos don't count as a veggie serving?
  • The race sounds like a bargain at $30, if for nothing else than the scenery and the bragging rights.
  • I love your selective listening regarding the runners talking about that "other" race with the 5 miles uphill.
  • WTG with finishing the race so you don't need to repeat the event. Now the question is, will you go back? It sounds like you're committed to it--or ought to be committed. :lmao:

P.S. I think you rocked it.

P.P.S. Brian, Congratulations to you too! Great time and AG finish.

Great report Wendy!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Terri

CONGRATULATIONS on finishing Charity Chase!!!!! I wish I had known you were there....I actually work for the Fleet Feet that sponsored and timed the race! :) I was there bright and early at 5AM to work setup and the finish line. Unfortunatly I had to go and open the store at 10AM, so I didn't get to see most of the finishers!

That course is hard....extremely! And the heat didn't help at all that morning! The race actually went really smoothly, and we were trilled with the number of participants. I hope that the word gets out more that this race is walker-friendly, as it truly is! We encourage people in the store and tell them that it is walker-friendly, but we tend to get a few looks of disblief!

Again, a huge congratulations for finishing such a challenging course!!! :)
