So, today I was in a charitable mood and decided I needed to contribute more.
So I started looking up charities, and it's kinda overwhelming how many options there are.

So, I decided I'd use you guys for some help :]

Do you contribute to charity?
What's the main cause you contribute to? (ie, animal rights, children protection, humanitarian efforts, etc.)
What specific charity do you use?

I usually contribute to UNICEF and the Terry Fox Foundation.

Animal charities. Humane Society and charities that help sea animals, like turtles. :)

Same. Dolphins for me.
But my mom gets all annoyed and tells me I should sponsor a kid instead.
But I don't have the money for a kid!
Ah. It just frusturates me.

I donate to the MDA because, personally, I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Any money I donate helps not only myself, but the plethora of children born every year that don't even get to see their first birthday, or their twentieth birthday, or just have to suffer with severely limited mobility for their life. Lucky, I have a very mild case, but it's still pretty apparent to me and anyone trying to get me up stairs/lift anything over 10 pounds. My mother on the other hand had to get surgery when she was young, has walked with a limp for most her life, and now can only walk around the house without assistance, and even that is difficult for her.

Now is a more important time than ever to donate as well. They've finally found a mouse that is able to live with the disease, and is able to reproduce, making finding a cure so much closer than it was before.

Donate to what YOU are passionate about. I just feel like animals have no one to speak for them, so I feel compelled to help them.

I do a lot of charity work with 4H. We do everything from giving toys to Toys For Tots to cooking at the Ronald McDonald House. Chairity work is fun, and really fufilling.

I suggest you consider an alternative donation rather than money. How about time? Volunteer somewhere.

Volunteer work is always more rewarding than just donating money. Instead of never knowing if the money actually got to whom it's supposed to be supporting, you personally are going in there and helping.

I usually volunteer at some event called Lark in the Park. Lots of fun :) When it's my birthday, i'm going to consider helping at a local animal shelter (I looked recently and it said you need to be 16 or over to do it unsupervised by a parent or guardian) over the weekends since I already do nothing.

Sadly, I don't contribute to charities much. When I do it's things like Comic Relief or Children in Need.

I volunteer at the social services building (ie: foodstamps, medicaid, child protective services, etc.)

I dontate blood to the.. people in accidents who need some blood charity? aka the red cross.
I don't know if that counts, but its the best I got right now.
I'm actually participating in a blood drive on the 11th. (:

Oh, and my family gives a lot of stuff to purple heart.

But as far as just giving straight up money to charities, I don't really do that. I guess I should. :|

Last year they had a blood drive at my high school and they were trying to get some blood out of my finger, I guess to see if I had enough circulating or something. Well they couldn't really get enough and the guy kept squeezing it and I passed out! How pathetic is THAT! Haha. But it's good to donate blood. Good for you!
