Charging to your room at a hotel

I know when you check out of a hotel they always ask if you want anything you charged to your room put on the card they have on file, but when you actually sign for the charge to your room while you are staying there, do they put a hold on your credit card account that you gave them at check in for that charge and then if you decide to use a different card at check at for anyroom charges just remove the hold? Or do they not do anything until you check out?

They just leave the card on file in case you do charge something to your room. If you charge something, and then check out you can tell them to use a different card instead of the one on file. They do that in case you charge something and then try to leave without paying. They can not hold any money from the card. Hope this helps you. Jo

If a hotel has automatic check out then they will charge the credit card on file in the middle of the night before you check out. I usually get my statement slipped under my door and it's there when I wake up on check out day.

If you want to change charge cards, you need to ask them about when it will be charged. Why wouldn't you just give them the one you want it charged to when you check in?

It is not a matter of giving them another card. I am using my Visa Debit card and I get paid on the day I checkout, so if they just charge it all at once at checkout then I won't need to transfer money into the account before I leave, which I don't want to do, since I will have the money in their from my paycheck.

It's charged sometime in the middle of the night. So if you get paid friday, and your check out is friday. Sometime in the middle of the night, both things are going to happen, but who knows which first.

I'd either leave another credit card on file, or transfer money into your checking account, then transfer your paycheck back into the account you borrowed from.
