So, if you are staying in a Disney hotel, you can charge to your room and pay off the balance every so often with gift cards to keep them from increasing your credit card hold, or the night before charging your card.

But how would that work when tent camping? Would that be too much bother since we'd have to drive or internal bus to the office? I assume that there is an office?

I am thinking things through to see if it will be worthwhile to have some Disney GC's pre-purchased at the Sam's discount.

Camp ground is still a resort .
You would need to leave a CC at front desk ( a $100 hold will put on it). You will need to be sure to go at least the night before c/o to use your GC's. OR just use the GC during your stay.

The Fort Wilderness Resort is an on-property resort like all the hotels from Value to Deluxe. As such, the Fort offers the amenities like the other resorts: A lobby with the usual guest services (concierge, grocery delivery, security boxes, ATM) that you can stop in at to check in, extend your stay, leave early, or in your case, pay down/off the balance on room charges.

It would work the same way as any other Disney resort would. Talk it over with the CM when you check in about periodically paying down the room charge balance (call? stop by in person?).

PS - if it were me I'd just use the gift card at the purchase point but call me crazy

That had been what I was originally thinking. Then I read somewhere else here that sometimes you get someone else's gift card back.

I've never heard that, but I suppose anything is possible. I would have no qualms with using a GC at POS.

That said, please note that you will be in the area of the 'office' many times. Guest Services is at the Outpost, which is located in the same general vicinity as the bus stop for all parks except for MK (which is at the other end of the campground). So, you will be in that area and could easily stop into Guest Services at any time.
