Charged extra to add 3rd person to our resort?

my BF & I usually have a resort room to ourselves, but for this next mini 3 night trip, we convinced his sister to let us treat her and come stay with us. I called Disney and asked them to add her to our room, so she can get all the benefits of staying on property, but they hit us with a $25 extra charge for the extra person per day. I’ve never heard of this. Has it always been a thing? I mean, how much shampoo do they think she’s going to use?

Yes, there has been a charge for a third (and fourth) adult in the room.

This is s standard practice in many hotels

Yep. We got it added to our room too for our 18 year old daughter. She is still in high school at the time of the trip.

This is normal in the industry, and if you think about it kind of makes sense. Another adult will use more shampoo, more towels, more water, more WiFi data... They may utilize services like the gym etc.

Yes - standard in the industry is "double occupancy" and "kids under 18 are free" so there is a charge for more than 2 adults unless you book a DVC Studio or a family suite. I am a single mom and now that my dd's are both over 18 I always price out the difference between the regular resort room with the extra charge or a studio and the studio often comes out cheaper. A bonus is that we have more room during the day with the sofa bed instead of two queens and a mini kitchen

Pretty sure it depends on the resort type.

As far as an extra adult using more wifi...

Yes. In the US, most hotel rates are “double occupancy,” meaning that the rate is valid for up to two guests in the room. Add more guests, and the rate goes up. Disney waives the rate increase if the additional guests are children.

My daughter (under 18) and I will be staying for a week, with my husband joining us for two days. Will we be charged an additional fee, we'll still only be 2 adults and 1 child.

The extra charge is only applied if you have more than 2 adults (ages 18 or over) in a resort room. The extra charge does not apply to family suites at AoA, ASMu, DVC villas or Ft. Wilderness Cabins.

No, you only have 2 adults. The fee is added when there are more than 2 adults.

It is currently $15, $25 and $35 extra per night per adult.

Room rates are based on 2 adults, 1 "junior", and 1 child.
If you add a 3rd or 4th adult you're charged more.
That's just how it is.
