Quick question...

Has anyone ever been charged the cancellation fee for not cancelling 24 hours in advance?

In my last 2 trips, I have cancelled CP and HBD the day of (a few hours before my ressie), and I have never been charged (even though I fully expected to me charged). The CM on the cancellation line even said I would. For the record, I have migraines so it wasn't carelessness, I was too ill to go.

I am just wondering if they actually follow-through with this policy or if it is just a "threat."

before the cancellation policy, i cancelled a fantasmic package the day of because i had a fever and the CM was kind enough not to charge me, but she told me on the phone it was because i was sick. i was surprised and it was really nice. i was disappointed we couldn't make the ressie and maybe she could tell. pixie dust i suppose :)

If you don't show up, you will be charged.

If you call to cancel, it's apparently at the discretion of the cancelling CM whether to put through the charge or not. It's possible, but not a certainty, that they will agree not to charge you if you call and say you are ill, etc.

It probably depends on the circumstances! We had an early morning reservation at Crystal Palace for before MK opened. Unfortunately, the power was out for about 4 hours the night before at our Treehouse Villa...and we got to sleep super late because it was so hot without air conditioning. The clock was messed up (didn't notice) so the alarm didn't go off, and we didn't wake up in time for our ADR or rope drop! We called and let them know what happened, and they gave us an ADR for later. We weren't charged.

I would not just miss the ADR for no reason and hope they wouldn't charge. It seems too risky to me (but of course we were a party of 9, so that would be $90!). But if something legitimately happens, it seems that Disney will work with you.

My friend told me her sister had to cancel their entire trip and got charged $10 for all her ADRs as she incorrectly assumed if she canceled her package all the ADRs would be canceled too. So just a heads up -- if you cancel your trip, you must also cancel your ADRs.

Yes, good point for those who don't know. ADRs aren't linked to your reservation - anyone can make them, even without a reservation - so all ADRs must be cancelled individually as well.

This only applies to reservations held with a credit card, correct?

To avoid the charges, yes. But as a courtesy you should cancel ALL your ADR's so that they open up for other families.

Yes, I think this is common sense. However to avoid the $10 charge you need to cancel 24 hours in advance, and maybe earlier for some ADRs. For the ones that aren't charged, you can cancel same day.
