Does Disney now charge a fee for having packages delivered to resorts? For example, packages from Garden Grocer or Costco to our room at OKW. Thanks!

Disney out sourced package processing, (UPS, FedEx, US Mail), to an outside vendor for the convention resorts, BWV, BCV, and BLT. The fee is based size and weight. For a typical box it's $5. Currently there isn't a fee for SSR, OKW, AKV and VWL.

outsource packing...very interesting

Let me clarify. The resorts in question host conventions, so the support services for those resorts, packages, business services, etc. are handled by IKON. Convention folks receive a ton of shipped stuff so I guess it only made sense to let IKON do it all. I know at BWV, we had a box lost last December and it took several people to check through the hundred or so boxes in the holding area at the convention center. They finally found the box misfiled three days later.

The fee isn't charged for items processed by Bell Services. Only for boxes which are now processed by the convention center.

I can also confirm that as of June, not charge at AKV.

ok, so how can you direct a package to bell services at BWV so you are not charged the processing/handling fee? Going in a few weeks and DH and I were just discussing shipping vs garden grocer. Thanks

Please read post #2 above.

I got confuzzled - does post #7 trump post #2 -

or is Post #7 in addition to Post #2

or does Post #2 the post that is the definitive answer, that post #7 just means if you are not part of the convention then you are in the post #7 response...

TIA

and then the garden grocer fee becomes "cheaper" than the UPS fee + the convention processing ($5) fee...

I HATE math btw!

When did this change? I stayed at CR back in Nov., shipped a package in advance to myself & there wasn't a charge.

Basically if you ship a package to a convention center resort via the traditional shipping companies of UPS, FedEx, Postal Service, etc., it will be processed by the convention center receiving/shipping center and be subject to a surcharge. Garden Grocer, Owners Lockers, etc. are delivered to the bell staff, not the convention staff, and not subject to a surcharge, but tipping the bell staff is appropriate if they handle the delivery in any way.

There is no way to re-route a shipped package to bell services to avoid the charge.

OK... let me try this one more time.

All boxes shipped via UPS, FedEx, US Mail to BWV, BCV, and BLT will be processed by the convention center and there will be a fee.

Other items, food delivery, Owners Locker, flowers, will be processed by Bell Services and you are expected to TIP.

All deliveries at SSR, OKW, AKV and VWL are processed by Bell Services, and you are expected to TIP.

Here is Disney's January 2009 press release.

Walt Disney World® Resorts update business and shipping services

IKON Office Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of document management systems and services, now operates the Walt
Disney World Business Centers located in convention centers at Disney's BoardWalk Resort, Disney's Contemporary
Resort, Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney's Yacht Club Resort,
providing consistent services and pricing throughout the Walt Disney World Resort.

Designed to serve as Guests' "office away from home," the centers provide document services, office-equipment rental,
large document reproduction, offset printing, bindery services and more.

Particularly popular among business and leisure travelers alike are Guest Parcel Services, in which Guests pay a
handling fee to have their personal packages shipped to and from their resort. Handling fees (charged in addition to
shipping/postage fees) range from $3-$10 depending on weight and as much as $70 for a 100-pound pallet.

Disney-owned-and-operated resort hotels at the Walt Disney World Resort, as well as Disney's Vero Beach Resort and Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, without IKON-operated Business Centers (non-convention resort hotels) also offer the package-delivery services and now charge the same handling fees for departing packages, which ensures consistency.
