For our planned May trip, we will have 4 "adults" as both kids will be over 18. My husband will probably leave a few days before us to go visit his family. I don't want to pay the extra adult fee if he's not there. Would I have to make two different resort reservations...one for when he will be with us and one for when he won't be? It will be room only. No package.

You make one reservation with him in the room for the entire trip. Once you check in you can tell the front desk that he will be checking out early. They will give you a credit for the days that he is not in the room. :)

Good! That will be so much easier!!!

As long as you don't book a package you can remove him when he leaves!

Not sure what resort your looking at but now that my "kids" are both over 18 I have been booking DVC (usually a studio) as they don't charge the extra adult fee (nor do the family suites or the cabins)

Our main resort is POFQ. Just paid attention to the extra adult cost on this trip. It's $50 for both of my kids. OUCH! Thanks for the advice. I will check into it.

That's our favorite resort too - even with the extra adult charges!

Last trip we tried an OKW Studio, the room was quite large, set up well and we Loved this resort despite the size of the resort and the number of bus stops.

Well, but look at it the other way. Using 2018 rates, you can pay an average of $295 per night including the data adults, or you can pay an average of $490 per night for two rooms given that they're adults can legally contract a hotel room. You're saving almost $200 per night ;)

I always look at it this way. Every tiem I wonder if we will be a little inconvenienced, I look at the numbers, and immediately feel better!

Interesting. When I was at POR in late May, my dh joined me for two nights, I was there for four. I was charged an addtl adult charge for him for four nights. I asked at the front desk about this. They told me that no, they can't not charge for him. But, the next time, I should make him a day guest. Well, that made no sense to me. But, it was what it was.

I was told the same thing. I added my DS and DDIL when they arrived and actually was not charged the additional guest fees, however this was the only way to keep them from being added the entire week.

I wonder if it depends on the cast member that you speak to at the resort. We didn't have any trouble with it at the Beach Club.

Interesting the different experience people have had. I will want him on the reservation so I can get him FP's. He will go to parks a couple of days that we are there. Guess I will have to cross my fingers they will take him off when he isn't there. And, I try a different cast member if I am told no the first time.

I'm hoping to take my daughter off our August Pop reservation for the second week we're there at check-in. I wanted her to get her MagicBand in advance and be able to use Magical Express upon arrival, so I just added her for the whole stay, but she leaves 6 days before we do. It's a room only reservation, so hopefully I'll get a bit of a credit. I'll let you know how it goes for me.

Since you have a room only reservation you will be able to get fastpasses for him as long as he has a ticket. He doesn't have to be on the reservation. When your booking window opens you will see his name in the list of guests when you make fastpasses. We have made fastpasses for people who are staying off site lots of time. You won't have a problem with his fastpasses. :)

Now if you want him to have a customized MagicBand then he will have to be on the reservation at least 30 days ahead of time. If you wait to add him to the room until you check in he will still get a MagicBand, it just might be grey or some other color.

Will I be able to make a reservation for him at 60 days out with ours? If so, that's what I will do! If it saves a few $, he can live with grey band.

FWIW, when using owned or rented DVC points, there is no extra adult charges.
