Hi,

Can someone let me know what they do as concerns buying charcoal and lighter fluid for cooking out on the grills at DVC?

Do you just buy a bag and a can of fluid and then throw away what it not used? We have an owner's locker that we are taking on the ship with us, but I'm leary of putting the lighter fluid in the locker.

We're staying at the Tree House Villas before and after our cruise and I would hate to have to buy this before and then after our cruise.

I know you folks have clever solutions, so I'm asking.

Thanks in advance. :)

When we buy the charcoal we buy the kind that doesn't need lighter fluid. We have a chimney so it lights and gets hot very fast. (of course we drive so we just bring it there and home). Could you get a small bag or container and leave the charcoal and lighter fluid with luggage services during your cruise?

I believe they sell small (1 use) bags of charcoal ready to light. If you buy a couple of those, then you wont have any left over. You will have to buy a couple more after your cruise, but I dont see another way.

Most cruise lines do not allow lighter fluid. Owner's Locker says it "isn't a good idea" to store it in a locker.

Sadly... this is one timeshare place we don't BBQ at all because I'm not willing to buy a bag of charcoal. I noticed the same thing when we stayed at the Marriott Grande Vista they had only charcoal type BBQs. I wonder if it is a Florida thing not to use gas BBQs? I prefer charcoal at home but on vacation I'd rather not deal with it... Do they have area to leave extra charcoal for other guest to use?

We always buy a medium size bag of charcoal from Winn-Dixie (or any store like that) that does not require lighter fluid as others have mentioned. It works great and have done that at the cabins for years. After every cookout the next day "poof" the ashes were gone and grill cleaned! At the end of the stay we usually find someone outside and offer the left over charcoal and other goods.

If you got the charcoal witht he lighter fluid already on it, you could put it in a container and leave it with bell services. We had an extra suitcase that had extra clothes that we wouldn't need on the cruise and the resort stored it for us until we came back for part 2 of our stay. You should be able to do something similiar.

I'm with you, but from the reasoning that I've never grilled with charcoal in my life. It's always been propane or wood fire. Heard some horror stories about charcoal ruining food and taking too long.

I'm willing to give it a try if someone can give me some pointers!

We love to grill and often get remarks from others that they didn't know there was a grill. Also the smell of grilling meat and chicken gets people hungry and happy.

We love to have the kids swim as we make a fun dinner then sit at a table and have our family picnic. It is a lot less then eating at WDW. We stop and get the pre ready charcoal with fluid on it.

Great way to have a good meal and save $.

Thank you, I will try that. I did not know that bell services might do that for guests. :) Glad we are staying in the same resort when we return from the cruise.

so do you put foilon the grill?
do we scrub it down afterwards? (i wouldn't want to leave it dirty for the next guest)

hmmm that last post has me thinking.....

Are there grilling utensils in the Treehouse?

Anyone know if there are grilling utensils in the THV
